The campervan is the ultimate all-rounder. Effortlessly practical and built for freedom, it’s just as at home navigating tight city streets as it is exploring the heart of the countryside.
The South East of England is home to the White Cliffs of Dover, a 110-metre chalk escarpment that has greeted seafarers for centuries and remains one of the most recognisable natural landmarks in the country. From the medieval cobbled streets of Canterbury to the flamboyant Royal Pavilion in Brighton, the region packs an extraordinary range of history and culture into a relatively compact area. The distance from London's southern fringe to the cathedral city of Canterbury is roughly 95 km, while Brighton sits about 80 km due south of the capital, making both ideal first stops on a campervan tour. Beyond the cities, the South East offers the rolling chalk downland of the South Downs National Park, the ancient woodlands of the Weald, and a coastline that stretches from the shingle beaches of Dungeness to the sandy shores of West Wittering. Narrow country lanes wind through hop gardens in Kent, and the New Forest — technically bordering the region — provides wild ponies and open heathland just a short drive away. Travelling by motorhome gives you the freedom to link these landscapes at your own pace, pulling in at coastal aires or countryside campsites as the mood takes you. With Yescapa, you hire your campervan directly from local owners across the South East, choosing from a wide selection of vehicles that suit everything from a weekend coastal break to a fortnight-long exploration of the region's quieter corners.
The South East enjoys some of the warmest, driest weather in the UK, making it a rewarding destination from late April through to October. May and June bring wildflower displays across the South Downs, while the Whitstable Oyster Festival in late July draws food lovers to the Kent coast. Autumn is ideal for woodland walks through the Weald's golden beech canopy. Summer is peak season, so booking your campervan early on Yescapa can help you secure the best choice of vehicles and competitive peer-to-peer prices. Shoulder months like September offer quieter campsites and pleasant touring conditions throughout the South East.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.

The South East offers a superb range of campsites, from clifftop pitches overlooking the English Channel to peaceful woodland clearings deep in the Weald. Many sites provide full electric hook-ups, hardstanding pitches, and dedicated motorhome service points, while coastal locations often include direct beach access. Whether you are touring in a compact campervan or a larger motorhome, you will find well-maintained facilities across Kent, Sussex, Surrey, and Hampshire.
The South East has an extensive motorway network, including the M25 orbital, M20 to Dover, and M23 towards Brighton. Most motorways in England are toll-free, though the Dartford Crossing on the M25 charges a fee payable online via the Dart Charge system. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.05 tonnes are 60 mph on motorways and 50 mph on single carriageways. Many A-roads in Kent and Sussex are well suited to larger vehicles, but some rural lanes through the Weald can be narrow, so plan your route in advance. Service stations with dedicated motorhome parking are available along major routes.
Great experience renting the Jimny. The owners were brilliant to deal with from start to finish, and the Jeep was in excellent condition. It was perfect for exploring the Algarve. Would definitely recommend and would happily rent from them again!
Clean, well-maintained vehicle that gave us so many great memories! We traveled to many places and drove around 900 km ourselves, and it handled everything flawlessly. Thanks to its size, parking was super easy, we could fit anywhere, and we were able to sleep in spots where a different kind of campervan wouldn't have worked. It is fully equipped with everything provided, even extra games for beach days! The bed and bedding were clean, and it has a really comfortable mattress. The owners were super nice and sweet. Everything went smoothly during both pickup and drop-off, and they were always there to help whenever we needed it, even when we got a bit lost! 😅 Plus point that they were super cool and easy to talk to. P.S. The AC works like a charm!
Sergey's van is great. Really spacious, easy to drive. We had a great trip. Sergey was really nice helpful and was on hand to help with any questions during the trip. He even gave us a lift to the train station in Ljubljana! Would 100% recommend.
This lovely family took great care of Dolly the week they rented her. I can recommend to rent your van. Friendly and easy communication as well. 😀
The best experience ever!! Amazing van and amazing people who run it
Muchas gracias. Gary y Michelle
