Why hire a campervan or motorhome in Gatwick

Gatwick — a region worth exploring

Gatwick sits just 30 miles south of central London, making it one of the most convenient starting points for a campervan or motorhome adventure across southern England. From here, the South Downs National Park is barely 20 miles away, offering over 1,600 square kilometres of rolling chalk hills, ancient woodland and long-distance trails such as the South Downs Way. Head south-east and within 45 miles you reach the white cliffs at Beachy Head near Eastbourne, while a 35-mile drive west brings you to the historic cathedral city of Chichester and its nearby harbour. The surrounding county of Surrey adds its own appeal, with Box Hill's famous viewpoint and the Royal Horticultural Society garden at Wisley both within easy reach. Road connections are excellent: the M23 links Gatwick directly to the M25 orbital motorway, opening up routes towards Kent, Hampshire and the coast. Smaller A-roads wind through villages and farmland, well suited to campervans and comfortable for most motorhome sizes. Whether you plan to explore the vineyards of the Sussex Weald or follow the coastline from Brighton to Hastings, the area around Gatwick gives you a practical, well-connected base. With Yescapa, you hire directly from local owners across the region, choosing from a wide range of vehicles — from compact campervans for couples to larger motorhomes for families — so you can pick up nearby and start your trip without delay.

Best time to visit

The best months to hire a campervan near Gatwick are May to September, when longer daylight hours make the most of the South Downs and Sussex coast. The Goodwood Festival of Speed, held each July near Chichester, draws motorsport fans from across the country and is worth building a trip around. Brighton Fringe runs throughout May, offering weeks of live performance just 28 miles from Gatwick. Spring and autumn bring quieter campsites and lower hire rates, ideal if you prefer a more relaxed pace. Through Yescapa, peer-to-peer pricing often undercuts traditional hire companies year-round, and booking a few weeks ahead secures the best choice of vehicles.
