Why hire a campervan or motorhome in Greece

Greece — a country worth exploring

Greece's coastline stretches over 13,676 kilometres, making it the longest in the Mediterranean and one of the most rewarding countries to explore on four wheels. From the ancient ruins of Delphi perched above the Gulf of Corinth to the clifftop monasteries of Meteora near Kalabaka, every turn reveals layers of history set against dramatic landscapes. The drive from Athens to Thessaloniki covers roughly 500 km along the E75 motorway, while the coastal road from Nafplio to Monemvasia in the Peloponnese winds for about 190 km through olive groves and seaside villages. Greece offers an extraordinary mix of mountain passes, fertile plains, and island-dotted seas — though for campervan and motorhome travel, the mainland and Crete provide the most practical touring ground. Coastal roads in the Peloponnese and western Greece are well suited to campervans, with regular service stops and scenic pull-overs. Inland routes through Epirus and Thessaly climb into the Pindus Mountains, where narrower roads reward you with alpine lakes and stone-built villages like Zagorochoria. With Yescapa, you hire your campervan or motorhome directly from local owners based across Greece, giving you a wider choice of vehicles and pick-up points than traditional hire companies. Whether you want a compact van for two or a fully equipped motorhome for the family, peer-to-peer sharing means competitive prices and personal recommendations from people who know the roads best.

Best time to visit

May and June are ideal months to hire a campervan in Greece, with warm temperatures and quieter roads before the peak summer rush. September and October bring a similar balance, plus the grape harvest season across the Peloponnese. If you visit in February, Patras hosts one of Europe's largest carnival celebrations, the Patras Carnival, with parades and festivities. Summer remains the most popular season, so booking your motorhome on Yescapa early gives you the best selection from local owners at competitive peer-to-peer prices. Campsites across Greece stay open from April through to October, with many coastal sites offering extended seasons.

What you need to know about roads and motorways in Greece

Greece has a modern motorway network with tolls on major routes such as the A1 (Athens–Thessaloniki) and the A8/A7 through the Peloponnese. Tolls are paid at booths in cash or by card, and costs vary by vehicle class — motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are charged at a higher rate. The general speed limit on motorways is 130 km/h for cars, but vehicles over 3.5 tonnes are limited to 90 km/h. Rest areas with fuel, food, and parking appear regularly on main motorways. Secondary roads in mountainous regions like Epirus can be narrow and winding, so a campervan is often more practical than a large motorhome on these stretches.

I had the most wonderful trip in Eve’s van. It has everything you need, a great sized fridge, a large comfy bed, cooking equipment, electrics to be off grid, a great shower & toilet. The van ran very smoothly and was a perfect size even driving through the towns was no problem at all. They were very accommodating, helping me with local tip and recommendations. I’d 100% recommend this van to anyone thinking of taking a road trip, you won’t regret it :)

Inigio and his lovely girlfriend looked after Dolly for one week here in the Algarve area. They brought her back clean and in really good shape. Before and during the rental period we had a very good dialogue. I can highly reccomend them to lend your car. :-)

Fantastic experience. Raul really went above and beyond to help us out and was always responsive with any queries we had. The van was in excellent condition, had everything we needed, and was ideal for our trip into the Pyrenees, plus heading south for the solar eclipse. Would highly recommend.
