From sleek A-class models to versatile coachbuilts and low-profiles, there’s a motorhome for every adventure—whether you need a compact getaway for two or a spacious multi-berth for the whole family.
The campervan is the ultimate all-rounder. Effortlessly practical and built for freedom, it’s just as at home navigating tight city streets as it is exploring the heart of the countryside.
Sweden's Icehotel in Jukkasjärv is rebuilt every winter from 5,000 tonnes of ice harvested from the Torne River, making it one of the most extraordinary overnight stays in Europe. From the cobblestone streets of Gamla Stan in Stockholm to the vast wilderness of Sarek National Park in Swedish Lapland, this Scandinavian country rewards those who explore it at their own pace. The drive from Malmö in the south to Kiruna in the north covers roughly 1,870 km, passing through dense boreal forests, the rolling farmland of Skåne, and the dramatic fjord-like coastline of the High Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Along the way, you can stop at the Göta Canal — a 190 km waterway linking Gothenburg to Söderköping — or wander through the glassworks of Småland, where traditional craftsmanship has thrived since the 18th century. Sweden's well-maintained roads and generous freedom-to-roam law (allemansrätten) make it particularly welcoming for campervan and motorhome travel, with thousands of scenic spots to park up for the night. Whether you fancy island-hopping through the Stockholm Archipelago or chasing the Northern Lights above the Arctic Circle, a campervan gives you the flexibility to follow your curiosity. With Yescapa, you hire directly from local owners across Sweden, choosing from a wide range of vehicles to suit your trip — from compact campervans for couples to spacious motorhomes for families.
Sweden is wonderful from late May to September, when long daylight hours — including the midnight sun north of the Arctic Circle — let you make the most of every driving day. June is ideal for the Midsommar celebrations, Sweden's most beloved tradition, with maypole dancing and festivities across the country. The Jokkmokk Winter Market, held each February since 1605, offers a unique reason to visit during the colder months, when snow-covered landscapes and Northern Lights create a magical backdrop. Summer is the busiest season, so booking your campervan or motorhome early on Yescapa helps you secure the best choice and competitive peer-to-peer prices. Shoulder months like May and September bring fewer fellow travellers and lower hire costs.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
This 250 km route hugs Sweden's west coast from Gothenburg to Strömstad, weaving past the fishing villages of Smögen and Fjällbacka. Ideal for a campervan, you can park up by the shore and feast on fresh seafood. Allow 3–6 days to explore the granite islands and sheltered harbours at a relaxed pace.
A gentle 200 km loop around Lake Siljan in Dalarna, passing through Mora, Rättvik, and Leksand — the heartland of Swedish folk culture. Over 3–5 days you can visit the Anders Zorn Museum and enjoy lakeside campsites with full hook-ups. A perfect short trip in a motorhome or campervan.
Covering 450 km from Gothenburg to Söderköping, this route follows the Göta Canal through Sweden's lake district, passing Vänern and Vättern — the country's two largest lakes. Plan 5–8 days to stop at Vadstena Castle and the Karlsborg Fortress. Well-serviced campsites line the canal throughout.
This 400 km route through Sweden's Småland region links Växjö to Kalmar via the Glasriket glassworks district, where you can watch master glassblowers at work. Over 5–8 days, explore Astrid Lindgren's World in Vimmerby and the ancient Eketorp fortress on Öland. Suits both campervans and motorhomes.
A 700 km journey along Sweden's east coast from Malmö to Sundsvall, taking in Kalmar Castle, the island of Gotland by ferry, and the UNESCO-listed High Coast. Allow 7–11 days and enjoy well-spaced rest areas. A motorhome is ideal for this longer stretch with comfortable overnight stops.
Spanning 900 km from Umeå to Abisko in Sweden's far north, this epic route crosses the Arctic Circle and passes through Jokkmokk and Gällivare. Over 10–15 days, you can hike in Abisko National Park and spot the Northern Lights. Campsites are well equipped, and a campervan handles the quieter roads with ease.

Sweden offers a superb range of campsites stretching from the sandy beaches of the south coast to the Arctic wilderness of Lapland. Many sites provide full-service pitches with electrical hook-ups, fresh water, and waste disposal suitable for both campervans and motorhomes. You will also find heated sanitary blocks, laundry facilities, and on-site shops at larger sites. Sweden's allemansrätten (right of public access) adds further flexibility, allowing overnight stays in many natural areas.
Sweden's motorways (motorvägar) are toll-free, with the exception of a few bridges such as the Öresund Bridge linking Malmö to Copenhagen and the Svinesund Bridge to Norway. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are typically 80 km/h on main roads and 90 km/h on motorways, while lighter vehicles follow standard car limits of up to 110 km/h. Roads are generally well maintained, even in rural areas, though northern routes above the Arctic Circle may require extra caution in winter. Rest areas with free parking, toilets, and waste disposal points appear regularly along major routes, making long-distance travel in a campervan or motorhome straightforward.
