Brighton's Royal Pavilion, built for King George IV in 1787, blends Indo-Saracenic and Mughal architectural styles in a way found nowhere else in Britain. This seaside city on the Sussex coast draws visitors year-round with its creative energy, independent spirit, and easy access to the South Downs. Stroll along Brighton Palace Pier for classic amusements, then head to The Lanes for narrow alleyways packed with vintage shops and cafés. The British Airways i360, a 162-metre observation tower on the seafront, offers panoramic views across the English Channel. For culture, the Brighton Museum & Art Gallery houses collections spanning fashion, archaeology, and twentieth-century art. The South Downs National Park begins just north of the city, and the chalk cliffs of Seven Sisters Country Park sit roughly 19 km to the east — a spectacular stretch of coastline well suited to a day trip. Eastbourne is only 32 km further along the coast, making it simple to combine destinations. Brighton's compact centre and flat seafront roads make it a comfortable base for exploring by campervan or motorhome, while the surrounding countryside provides quieter overnight stops. With Yescapa, you hire directly from local owners in the Brighton area, giving you flexible pick-up options and genuine recommendations for the best routes along the coast.
Brighton comes alive in May when the Brighton Festival and Brighton Fringe fill the city with theatre, music, and street performance across dozens of venues. Summer months bring long days ideal for seafront drives and campsite stays along the Sussex coast. September and October offer a quieter pace, with mild weather that suits campervan touring through the South Downs without the peak-season bustle. Hiring through Yescapa gives you access to competitive peer-to-peer pricing, especially outside July and August. Book a few weeks ahead for summer weekends to secure the best choice of vehicles near Brighton.
Brighton is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Head 32 km east along the A259 coast road from Brighton, stopping at Saltdean Lido and Birling Gap for clifftop walks. Eastbourne's Beachy Head offers dramatic chalk headlands. Campervan parking is available at the seafront, and several campsites sit just outside town.
Drive 65 km west from Brighton through Worthing and Arundel, where the medieval castle overlooks the River Arun. Chichester Cathedral and Fishbourne Roman Palace are well worth a visit. Flat roads and good campsite options make this an easy motorhome route.
Cover 120 km west from Brighton to reach the New Forest National Park. Stop at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard en route, then explore Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst by campervan. Wild ponies roam freely, and several well-equipped campsites welcome larger vehicles.
Travel 150 km north-east from Brighton through the Kent countryside. Visit Royal Tunbridge Wells and Leeds Castle before reaching Canterbury Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Motorhome-friendly parking is available near the city walls.
Set off 240 km south-west from Brighton toward Dorset's Jurassic Coast. Pass through Southampton and Bournemouth, then explore Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. Campervan pitches along this coastline fill up in summer, so plan stops in advance.
Head 280 km north-west from Brighton into the rolling hills of the Cotswolds. Visit Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water, and Bibury. Narrow lanes suit smaller campervans best, and farm-based campsites offer peaceful overnight stays with countryside views.

Brighton sits between the sea and the South Downs, so you will find campsites ranging from clifftop pitches with Channel views to sheltered downland spots just minutes from the city. Most sites offer electric hook-ups, toilet and shower blocks, and hardstanding pitches suitable for both campervans and motorhomes. Several welcome dogs and have on-site shops. If you prefer to stay closer to the centre, a handful of sites within a short drive of Brighton provide easy bus or bike access to the seafront.
Brighton permits daytime parking for larger vehicles in several designated areas, though overnight stays on public roads are generally not allowed without specific permission. The seafront roads west of the city centre have some larger bays, but height barriers restrict many multi-storey car parks. Always check signage for vehicle height and length limits before entering. For longer or overnight stays, dedicated motorhome stopovers and campsites on the outskirts are your best option.
We hired the van for 8 nights and it was perfect. Went up to the mountains and down to the beach. It was very spacious and well kitted out. The owners are also lovely, accommodating and quick to reply to our message
Both Jesus and Susana were very communicative and made the rental process very easy. The van is basically new in very good condition and easy to handle. It was fun cooking in remote places having a beautiful view and having a large fridge really helped to keep all cool and fresh. We had a nice time with it and would certainly recommend it to others.
