Bognor Regis earned its royal title in 1929 when King George V convalesced here, making it one of only a handful of British seaside towns with a regal suffix. Stretching along the West Sussex coast, the town offers a generous promenade ideal for leisurely strolls, while Hotham Park provides 11 hectares of landscaped gardens, a miniature railway, and a boating lake. Families flock to Butlin's Bognor Regis for its entertainment complex, and the Picturedrome — one of the oldest purpose-built cinemas in the country — still screens films in its original Edwardian building. For nature lovers, Pagham Harbour Nature Reserve sits just 5 km to the west, home to wading birds and rare coastal flora. Chichester, with its famous cathedral and Festival Theatre, is only 11 km to the north-east, making it an easy day trip. The flat coastal roads around Bognor Regis are well suited to larger vehicles, and the seafront car parks accommodate motorhomes comfortably during the day. If you fancy exploring the South Downs or the Witterings beaches, hiring a campervan through Yescapa connects you directly with local owners who know the area and can share tips on the best routes. A campervan gives you the freedom to wake up by the sea one morning and be deep in the rolling chalk hills by lunchtime — all at your own pace.
Bognor Regis holds the record for the most sunshine hours in the UK, so you can expect pleasant conditions from late spring right through to autumn. The Bognor Regis Carnival in June fills the streets with floats and live music, while the International Birdman competition each July draws daring contestants who launch themselves off the pier. Book your campervan early for July and August — these are the busiest months along the Sussex coast. With Yescapa, you can often find better value by hiring outside peak weeks, and local owners may offer flexible pick-up times to suit your schedule. Bognor Regis is equally rewarding in September and October when the seafront is quieter.
Bognor Regis is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Just 11 km north-east, Chichester rewards a short campervan trip with its 12th-century cathedral and the renowned Chichester Festival Theatre. Browse the Pallant House Gallery, then park up at one of the city's dedicated motorhome-friendly spots to explore the Roman walls on foot.
Head 32 km north to Arundel and its imposing Norman castle overlooking the River Arun. Wander the Arundel Wetland Centre for close-up views of rare wildfowl, and pick up local produce at the high-street delis. Campervan parking is straightforward near the riverside meadows.
Follow the coast 105 km east to Brighton, stopping at Worthing Pier and Shoreham-by-Sea along the way. In Brighton, visit the Royal Pavilion and stroll through The Lanes for independent shops. Several campsites on the South Downs fringe offer hook-ups and easy bus links into the city.
Drive 140 km west to the New Forest, where wild ponies roam open heathland. Stop at Lymington for fresh seafood and Beaulieu for the National Motor Museum. Motorhome pitches are plentiful across the forest, with many sites offering electric hook-ups and woodland settings.
Portsmouth lies 65 km south-west along the A27 and is home to the Historic Dockyard, where you can board HMS Victory and the Mary Rose. Gunwharf Quays offers waterfront dining. Several dedicated overnight parking areas near Southsea make it easy to stay in your campervan.
Travel 210 km west to Dorset's Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove before continuing to Weymouth's sandy beach. The route passes through Bournemouth, ideal for a rest day. Campsites along the coast welcome motorhomes and campervans alike.

The area around Bognor Regis offers a good selection of campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. Many are set along the flat coastal strip between Chichester and Littlehampton, with easy access to the beach and local amenities. You will find sites with electric hook-ups, hardstanding pitches, shower blocks, and on-site shops — ideal for short stays or longer breaks exploring the West Sussex coast.
Bognor Regis has several car parks along the seafront that accept larger vehicles during daytime hours. Overnight parking in a motorhome or campervan on public roads is generally permitted unless local signage states otherwise, but dedicated overnight facilities are limited within the town itself. It is worth checking height barriers before entering any multi-storey car park, and using seafront or open-air options instead.
I highly recommend renting from Handy! The camper van was absolute perfection for our family road trip with two young children, and its condition was top-notch. At pickup, Handy was incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and accommodating, taking the time to explain all the various systems and how to best operate the vehicle. He was also super responsive and helpful whenever I had quick questions during our trip. I couldn't have asked for a better host or vehicle. Thank you, Handy!
very good experience with the owner Luis. I recommend
Esperienza positiva
