Slovenia packs an extraordinary amount of variety into just 20,273 square kilometres, making it one of Europe's most rewarding countries to explore by road. From the Julian Alps in the north-west, where Triglav — the country's highest peak at 2,864 metres — dominates the skyline, to the 46-kilometre Adriatic coastline around Piran and Koper, you can cross remarkably different landscapes in a single day. Ljubljana to Lake Bled is only 55 kilometres, while the drive from the capital south-east to Ptuj, one of Slovenia's oldest towns, covers roughly 130 kilometres through rolling hills and vineyard-lined valleys. Along the way, you can stop at the Škocjan Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, wander through the Soča Valley's turquoise river gorges, or visit Predjama Castle, built into the mouth of a cave. The road network is well maintained and distances are short, so a campervan lets you cover multiple regions without long driving days. Narrower mountain roads in the Julian Alps suit smaller campervans, while the motorway corridors are comfortable for larger motorhomes. With Yescapa, you hire directly from local owners spread across the country, giving you flexible pick-up points and a choice of vehicles tailored to your itinerary — whether that is a compact van for alpine passes or a fully equipped motorhome for a family tour of the Karst region.
May to September is the prime window for a campervan trip through Slovenia, with June and early September offering warm days and quieter roads. The Ljubljana Festival runs from late June through August, filling the capital with open-air concerts and theatre. In autumn, the Martinovanje wine festival in November celebrates the year's new vintage across wine regions like Goriška Brda. Campsites throughout the country generally open from April to October, with mountain sites at higher altitudes sometimes closing earlier. Booking through Yescapa during shoulder months can save you money, as peer-to-peer pricing tends to be lower outside the July–August peak.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
This 550 km loop from Ljubljana circles the entire country, taking in Lake Bled, the Soča Valley, Piran on the coast, and the Ptuj wine country. Allow 10–15 days to enjoy each region at a relaxed pace. Suited to both campervans and motorhomes, with plentiful campsites along the route.
A compact 120 km route through Slovenia's emerald river valley, linking Bovec and Kobarid before looping via Tolmin. Ideal for 3–5 days in a campervan, with riverside campsites and easy access to walking trails and the Napoleonica bridge.
Cover 80 km between the Škocjan Caves and the coastal town of Piran, passing through Lipica's famous stud farm and the hilltop village of Štanjel. A 3–6 day trip perfect for a compact campervan on quiet Slovenian back roads.
This 350 km route crosses the Julian Alps via the Vršič Pass, connecting Kranjska Gora to Lake Bohinj and onward to Bled. Plan 5–8 days and choose a smaller campervan for the hairpin bends. Mountain campsites offer spectacular morning views across Slovenia's peaks.
A 400 km journey through eastern Slovenia, linking the spa towns of Dolenjske Toplice, Čatež and Moravske Toplice before reaching Ptuj. Allow 6–9 days in a motorhome to combine thermal bathing with vineyard visits and gentle countryside driving.
Wind 280 km through Slovenia's three wine regions — Podravje, Posavje, and Primorska — over 5–8 days. Stop at Jeruzalem's hilltop vineyards and Goriška Brda's terraced slopes. A motorhome gives you space to stock up on local vintages along the way.

Slovenia's campsites range from alpine pitches beside glacial lakes to coastal spots within walking distance of the Adriatic. Most sites offer electric hook-ups, modern toilet and shower blocks, and dedicated hardstanding pitches for motorhomes. Many also provide Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, and on-site shops. Whether you are parking a campervan in the Soča Valley or settling a larger motorhome near a thermal spa in the east, you will find well-maintained sites spread right across the country.
Slovenia uses a vignette system for its motorways. You need to purchase an e-vignette online or at petrol stations before driving on the avtocesta network — fines for non-compliance are steep. The standard speed limit on motorways is 130 km/h for cars, but motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are limited to 80 km/h. Two-lane national roads have a general limit of 90 km/h. Rest areas with facilities appear regularly along the A1 (Ljubljana–Koper) and A2 (Karavanke–Ljubljana) corridors. Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes also face restrictions on certain mountain passes, so check signage before tackling routes like the Vršič Pass.
We hired Trina for 5 nights earlier this July. My girlfriend and I had a fantastic time on the island. Jandro was incredibly helpful, always on hand before and during the trip to answer any questions which really helped us navigate the island and enjoy our trip. The vehicle was fantastic, an incredible experience to drive. All the amenities were brilliant as well. I would highly recommend using Jandro and one of his vans for a fantastic Mallorca experience!
Communication with the owner was great, van was immaculate, heaps of choice, love the peer to peer concept. Easy to add an extra driver and ID checks were very thorough but straightforward. Changing dates wasn't so easy, the owner was great, but the process at the back end took some manual effort. Teething problems, not a big deal. Main area that needs improving (for me anyway) is the deposit. There was a single line in a table stating Deposit: cash or transfer, that I hadn't seen. The owner asked for the cash or a transfer when we were at the car, which he explained was normal process, but Yescapa could have explained beforehand. I transferred €2000 directly to the owner, which didn't feel comfortable. I had expected this would all be done via Yescapa. I ended up losing €45 in exchange rate variations + fees as well, the owner's bank had challenges which meant it to 5 days to get a lot of cash back. It was lucky we had that amount at hand. I would use Yescapa again. I hope they can tidy up and improve the processes though.
Very easy and open person… all went well , on time and with all the agremants.
Incredible time spent across the south of France with an incredible van! From beach, lakes, mountains and fields, it got me places I didn’t even pre conceive. Can’t speak more highly of my over all experience from van collection at train station to drop off. Drives smoother than my Suzuki jimny and can confirm very 6ft 4 friendly.
We had an amazing experience hiring Eli's campervan! It was perfect for our family of four – myself, my partner, and our two young daughters. The van was spotless, comfortable, and had everything we needed for our trip. It was easy to drive, well-equipped, and made exploring the malaga so much more enjoyable. The owners were friendly, helpful, and made the whole rental process smooth from start to finish. We made some unforgettable family memories and wouldn't hesitate to rent this campervan again. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a fun, comfortable, and hassle-free adventure in Spain. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We had a great experience. All went smoothly and the camper van was perfect. Mike was very accommodating and communicative throughout and we would recommend highly.
