Italy's boot-shaped peninsula stretches roughly 1,200 km from the Alps to its southernmost point at Capo Passero in Sicily, offering one of Europe's most rewarding landscapes for a road trip. The Amalfi Coast's narrow SS163 road winds for 50 km between Sorrento and Salerno, hugging cliffsides above the Tyrrhenian Sea. In the north, the Dolomites — a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009 — rise to 3,343 metres at Marmolada, with well-maintained mountain passes such as the Stelvio and Tre Cime di Lavaredo loop. Tuscany's Val d'Orcia delivers rolling hills dotted with cypress-lined roads, while Sardinia's eastern coastline around Cala Goloritzé rivals any Mediterranean beach. The distance from Milan to Palermo is approximately 1,470 km, giving you a sense of just how much ground there is to cover. Italy's motorway network connects major cities efficiently, yet the real magic lies on secondary roads through hilltop villages, olive groves, and lakeside towns like Bellagio on Lake Como. Whether you fancy a compact campervan for Liguria's tight coastal lanes or a spacious motorhome for a family tour through Puglia, you will find the right vehicle on Yescapa. Our peer-to-peer platform connects you directly with local owners across Italy, so you can pick up your hire close to where your adventure begins and set off at your own pace.
Italy is wonderful for a campervan trip from April through to October. Spring brings wildflower-covered meadows in Tuscany and comfortable temperatures ideal for exploring Rome and Florence on foot. Summer is peak season — book early to secure the best choice of vehicles on Yescapa, where peer-to-peer pricing often undercuts traditional hire companies. Autumn is perfect for food festivals such as the Alba White Truffle Fair in Piedmont each October and November, and the grape harvest across Chianti. Coastal campsites in Sardinia and Puglia stay open well into October, giving you quieter beaches and pleasant weather for a motorhome getaway.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
Cover 750 km from Turin through Florence, Rome, and Naples on this epic Italian journey. Allow 10–15 days to savour Tuscan vineyards, Roman ruins, and Neapolitan pizza. Motorhomes handle the motorway stretches comfortably, with well-equipped rest stops along the way.
This 220 km route links Sorrento, Positano, and Ravello along Italy's most celebrated coastal road. A compact campervan is ideal for the narrow bends of the SS163. Plan 3–6 days and stop at seaside campsites with views over the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Drive 280 km from Taormina past Mount Etna to Syracuse and the baroque towns of the Val di Noto. Sicily's eastern coast suits a campervan perfectly, with 3–6 days giving you time for local markets, ancient Greek theatres, and coastal swims.
Spanning 400 km over 5–8 days, this route winds through Siena, Montepulciano, Orvieto, and Assisi. Italy's green heart offers quiet roads lined with sunflowers and olive groves — ideal for a motorhome at a relaxed pace. Campsites with full hook-ups are plentiful.
Circle 450 km of Sardinia's coastline in 5–8 days, from Alghero's coral cliffs to the white sands of Cala Luna and the Costa Smeralda. A campervan lets you reach smaller beaches, and seaside campsites across the island offer pitches with sea views.
This 600 km route across northern Italy takes 7–11 days, linking Bolzano, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Lake Garda, and Venice. Mountain passes like the Passo Gardena reward you with dramatic scenery. Motorhomes are welcome at lakeside and alpine campsites throughout the route.

Italy offers a huge variety of campsites, from beachfront pitches on the Sardinian coast to alpine sites beneath the Dolomites and countryside retreats in Tuscany. Most sites provide electrical hook-ups, modern shower blocks, and dedicated motorhome service points for fresh water and waste disposal. Many larger camping villages add swimming pools, restaurants, and Wi-Fi, making them comfortable bases whether you are travelling by campervan or motorhome.
Italy's motorway network, the autostrada, is largely toll-based. You pay at exit barriers using cash, card, or a Telepass transponder. The speed limit for motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes is 100 km/h on motorways and 80 km/h on dual carriageways, compared with 130 km/h and 110 km/h for cars. Many Italian motorways feature frequent Autogrill service areas with fuel, food, and toilets. Vehicles over 3 metres in height should watch for restrictions on older tunnels, particularly in Liguria and along Alpine routes. Zone a Traffico Limitato (ZTL) signs in city centres restrict access — check before driving into historic towns.
Stefano was great I added the airport shuttle option and he was on time and friendly - the van was great i took it up to the Dolomites and it was small enough for all the roads and carparks and the perfect compact van with everything you'd need. It was warm enough and comfortable and useful. Great experience!
Nil and his partner were second time renters now in July 2026, back then Nov 2024. It was great having them again and I only have positive things to say about them :)! They left the van in impeccable condition, each time. They are flexible with timing or if there is any issue. They communicate well. I'm super happy to rent to them again and if any other renter reads this, don't hesitate at all!
It's the second time I've hired from Ruben and I hope not the last. He is very honest and explains everything clearly. His RV is lovely to drive and has everything you need. If you're looking for an RV, go with Ruben!
Overall experience was great! Host was very responsive and proactive and provided support before and throughout our trip. The van has everything you need to enjoy a nice camping experience.
Martine was a wonderful host and took us through the many features and inventory with kindness and good humour. She made great efforts to help overcome our language barrier, for which we were very grateful. The motor home was in excellent condition and very well appointed. The electric self lowering bed was very comfortable and retracted to the roof freeing up valuable space for the living quarters. The Fiat vehicle controls were easy to handle and once we got used to the size was no trouble motoring around the Loire. The vehicle was very reliable and well maintained. Martine was quick to reply to a water heating issue we had and resolved our query with easy to follow instructions. Overall, we were very satisfied with our 8 day rental and would not hesitate to recommend this motor home for future rentals.
We had a great honeymoon to the Dolomites in the GreyPanther! Thomas was very thorough with his introduction to the van, communication and I would highy recommend!
