Germany's Romantic Road stretches 460 km from Würzburg to Füssen, passing through medieval towns and Baroque churches that have drawn travellers for over six decades. From the North Sea mudflats of the Wadden Sea to the snow-dusted peaks of the Zugspitze, the country packs an extraordinary range of landscapes into a single road trip. You can drive from Hamburg on the Baltic coast to Munich in the Bavarian south in roughly 780 km, or trace the Rhine Gorge between Koblenz and Bingen — a 65 km stretch lined with over 40 castles. The Black Forest offers winding roads through dense woodland and traditional villages, while the Moselle Valley rewards slower driving with vineyard-covered hillsides and riverside campsites. Germany's well-maintained Autobahn network and extensive Stellplatz system — dedicated motorhome stopovers found in nearly every town — make it one of Europe's most welcoming countries for campervan travel. Whether you fancy lakeside pitches at Müritz National Park in Mecklenburg or alpine panoramas near Berchtesgaden, there is always somewhere new to park up. With Yescapa, you hire your campervan or motorhome directly from local owners spread right across Germany, giving you the flexibility to collect a vehicle close to your starting point and set off without delay.
May to October is the prime window for a campervan trip through Germany, with long daylight hours and mild temperatures ideal for outdoor exploring. June brings the Kieler Woche sailing festival on the Baltic coast, while late September and early October see Munich's Oktoberfest draw millions. Spring and autumn are quieter on the roads and at campsites, and Yescapa's peer-to-peer model often means more competitive hire prices outside the July–August peak. Book ahead for summer if you plan to tour Bavaria or the coast, as these regions are especially popular with touring families.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
Follow 200 km of Germany's Baltic shoreline from Lübeck to Rostock, stopping at the seaside resort of Kühlungsborn and the old harbour town of Wismar. Campervan-friendly Stellplätze dot the coast, many with direct beach access.
This 400 km loop links Koblenz, Cochem, and Trier along vineyard-lined river roads. Expect gentle gradients suited to any motorhome, plus well-equipped riverside campsites. Allow extra time for castle visits at Burg Eltz and the Deutsches Eck.
Cover 260 km from Würzburg to Füssen through Germany's most storied route. Highlights include the walled town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Neuschwanstein Castle. The road is well-signed and suits campervans of all sizes.
A 450 km circuit from Freiburg through the Black Forest to Konstanz on Lake Constance and back via Titisee. Winding mountain roads reward careful driving with forest views, and lakeside pitches at Überlingen make ideal overnight stops.
Stretching 600 km from Lindau on Lake Constance to Berchtesgaden, this route crosses Germany's dramatic alpine south. Pass through Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Oberammergau, with well-serviced motorhome stopovers along the way.
Drive 750 km from Hamburg to Munich, taking in the Lüneburger Heide, the university city of Göttingen, and the Franconian wine country around Würzburg. A mix of Autobahn and scenic B-roads keeps the journey varied for campervan travellers.

Germany offers an impressive network of campsites for both campervan and motorhome travellers, from Baltic Sea beachfront parks to alpine meadow pitches in Bavaria. Most sites provide full hook-ups, modern shower blocks, and dedicated service areas for waste disposal. Many also feature on-site shops, playgrounds, and Wi-Fi. The country's Stellplatz system adds thousands of simpler stopovers in towns and villages across every region of Germany.
Germany's Autobahn network is toll-free for campervans and motorhomes under 7.5 tonnes, so you can cover long distances without extra cost. Some sections have no speed limit for cars, but vehicles over 3.5 tonnes are restricted to 80 km/h, and those under 3.5 tonnes should keep to 130 km/h as the recommended maximum. Rest areas with dedicated motorhome service points appear regularly along major routes. An environmental sticker (Umweltplakette) is required to enter low-emission zones in most city centres — order one online before you travel.
great van a few interior problems but apart from that all good
check in took 1.40 hr! legible dirty outside with tape repairs to window and mirror paid for gas but when we got there found canister was empty and we had to replace ourselves
Everything was amazing
Great experience renting the Jimny. The owners were brilliant to deal with from start to finish, and the Jeep was in excellent condition. It was perfect for exploring the Algarve. Would definitely recommend and would happily rent from them again!
Clean, well-maintained vehicle that gave us so many great memories! We traveled to many places and drove around 900 km ourselves, and it handled everything flawlessly. Thanks to its size, parking was super easy, we could fit anywhere, and we were able to sleep in spots where a different kind of campervan wouldn't have worked. It is fully equipped with everything provided, even extra games for beach days! The bed and bedding were clean, and it has a really comfortable mattress. The owners were super nice and sweet. Everything went smoothly during both pickup and drop-off, and they were always there to help whenever we needed it, even when we got a bit lost! 😅 Plus point that they were super cool and easy to talk to. P.S. The AC works like a charm!
Sergey's van is great. Really spacious, easy to drive. We had a great trip. Sergey was really nice helpful and was on hand to help with any questions during the trip. He even gave us a lift to the train station in Ljubljana! Would 100% recommend.
