Why choose Harrietsham for your road trip

Harrietsham — a city worth exploring

Harrietsham sits along the ancient Pilgrims' Way in the heart of Kent, where the North Downs ridge meets the fertile Weald — a landscape shaped by centuries of hop farming and fruit orchards. The village's Church of St John the Baptist dates back to the 12th century and remains one of the finest Norman churches in the county. From here, you can walk sections of the North Downs Way National Trail, which passes directly through the parish. Stede Hill, a grand Palladian mansion on the village's southern edge, adds a touch of architectural grandeur to the rolling countryside. Leeds Castle, often called the loveliest castle in the world, lies just 6 km to the south-west, while the county town of Maidstone is only 10 km to the west, offering markets, museums, and the Maidstone Museum & Bentlif Art Gallery. The surrounding lanes are well suited to campervan travel, with gentle gradients and quiet roads winding through orchards and oast houses. Harrietsham also benefits from easy access to the M20 motorway, making it a practical base for exploring the Garden of England by motorhome. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan from a local owner nearby, giving you the freedom to discover Kent's countryside at your own pace — from the chalk downland above the village to the coast at Folkestone, just 55 km to the south-east.

Best time to visit

Harrietsham and the surrounding Kent countryside are at their best from late April through to October. The Maidstone River Festival in July brings music and boat races to the nearby county town, while the Kent County Show in Detling each July celebrates rural life with livestock, local produce, and craft displays. Spring is ideal for campervan touring when the orchards are in blossom and the lanes are quieter. Summer brings longer days for walking the North Downs Way. Through Yescapa, you can often find better value on hire outside the school holiday peak, and booking a few weeks ahead gives you the widest choice of vehicles from local owners near Harrietsham.

We had an amazing trip! Rafaela and Carina were so kind, and we couldn’t recommend their van enough 🤩🙏🏼 The van had everything we needed for a proper “van life” experience, and you can also stay at campsites whenever you want!

We hired a motorhome from Cemil for a week to travel around Switzerland. We also visited France, Germany and Liechtenstein. Before the trip Cemil was helpful and responded to questions promptly. On the day of pick up he met us at the train station and the handover was smooth and quick. At the end if the trip it was also a very smooth transition and Cemil kindly drove us back to the airport. The van was great - very easy to drive and everything worked perfectly. All tolls and insurance were covered. We were very happy with the motorhome and would highly recommend renting from Cemil.

We had a great experience hiring this motorhome. Everything went smoothly and we had absolutely zero issues throughout our trip. Fernando kept us informed about everything from the beginning and was very friendly and helpful. He was also very flexible with both the pickup and drop-off times, which made everything much easier. The location is perfect, especially if you're arriving via Prague Airport. We travelled all the way to Hungary and back to Poland, staying at several off-grid locations along the way. We had an amazing time at Lake Balaton in Hungary and also loved our stay at the Pod Opaleńcem campsite in Świeradów-Zdrój, Poland. We would definitely recommend this motorhome hire and would happily rent from Fernando again!
