Buckinghamshire's Chiltern Hills stretch across 324 square miles of chalk downland, ancient beechwood and gentle valleys, making it one of the most accessible Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty from London. The county sits at a crossroads between the capital and the Midlands, with roughly 50 miles separating the market town of Buckingham in the north from the Chiltern ridge at Stokenchurch in the south. At its heart, Bletchley Park in Milton Keynes tells the story of the World War II codebreakers, while the National Trust's Waddesdon Manor near Aylesbury houses one of the finest collections of French decorative arts in the world. Further south, the Roald Dahl Museum in Great Missenden celebrates the author who lived and wrote in the village for 36 years. For walkers and cyclists, the Ridgeway National Trail crosses the southern tip of the county, and the Grand Union Canal threads northward through locks and waterside pubs — both routes ideal for slow-paced touring. The distance from High Wycombe to Aylesbury is about 22 miles, an easy day's drive with stops at Hughenden Manor and Wendover Woods along the way. Whether you prefer a compact campervan for the narrow lanes of the Chilterns or a larger motorhome for the broader roads around Milton Keynes, Yescapa connects you with local owners across Buckinghamshire who share their vehicles peer-to-peer, so you can hire exactly what suits your trip and explore the county at your own pace.
Buckinghamshire is wonderful from late spring through autumn. May and June bring bluebell carpets to Chiltern beechwoods, while the Bucks County Show in late August draws crowds to Aylesbury with livestock, food stalls and live entertainment. Autumn colour peaks in October, when a campervan tour through the Chilterns is especially rewarding. Summer weekends are the busiest period, so booking your hire through Yescapa ahead of time helps you secure the best choice of vehicles at competitive peer-to-peer prices. Even winter has its appeal — Waddesdon Manor's Christmas Fair runs from November into December, offering a festive reason to visit Buckinghamshire.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
Start in High Wycombe and wind through 70 km of rolling chalk hills. Visit Hughenden Manor, pause at Wendover Woods for a forest walk, then continue to Great Missenden's Roald Dahl Museum. A compact campervan handles the narrow lanes with ease, and several farm-based campsites offer overnight pitches along the route.
Follow the Grand Union Canal for roughly 90 km from Marsworth near Tring up to Cosgrove in north Buckinghamshire. Stop at the flight of locks at Stoke Bruerne and explore canalside pubs in Leighton Buzzard. Flat terrain and waterside parking spots make this route ideal for motorhomes of any size.
A 180 km loop from Milton Keynes through Buckingham, Stowe Gardens and Olney before returning via the Great Ouse valley. Stowe's landscaped parkland and Olney's Pancake Race heritage are highlights. Campervan-friendly aires near Buckingham make overnight stops straightforward.
Cover 150 km from Marlow on the Thames north through the Chilterns to Princes Risborough and Thame, then loop back via the Hambleden Valley. Enjoy riverside walks at Marlow and the Red Kite feeding station at Watlington. Motorhome pitches are plentiful around the Thames Valley.
This 250 km route links the county's highlights: Bletchley Park, Waddesdon Manor, Stowe Gardens, the Chiltern beechwoods and the Thames at Cookham. Allow a week or more to explore at a relaxed pace. A mix of A-roads and country lanes suits both campervans and mid-size motorhomes.
Stretch to 300 km by combining Buckinghamshire with its borders — Oxford to the west, the Chilterns to the south and Bedford to the north. Take in Claydon House, Whitchurch's silk mill and Ivinghoe Beacon. Longer stays at campsites in each area let you explore without rushing your campervan trip.

Buckinghamshire offers a good spread of campsites, from peaceful Chiltern woodland clearings to open farmland pitches in the north of the county. Many sites provide electric hook-ups, hardstanding pitches and modern shower blocks suitable for both campervans and motorhomes. Several are within walking distance of pubs and footpaths, so you can leave your vehicle parked up and explore on foot.
Buckinghamshire is well served by the M40, which runs through the south of the county linking London to Birmingham, and the M1, which passes through Milton Keynes in the north. Neither motorway charges tolls. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.05 tonnes are 60 mph on motorways and 50 mph on single carriageway roads. Many Chiltern lanes are narrow and winding, so a campervan can be easier to manoeuvre than a larger vehicle. Rest areas and services are available at Beaconsfield on the M40 and Newport Pagnell on the M1. Height restrictions apply on some older bridges along the Grand Union Canal towpath roads — check your vehicle clearance before setting off.
This was our first experience hiring a van and it was very good. Patrick was super helpful and friendly. We experienced some problems with the battery but Patrick was very responsive and helpful trying to solve this. The van has everything you need, although a cradle for your phone would be useful if using for directions as there is no satnav. The bed was surprisingly spacious and very comfy- we slept very well considering the 40 degree heat wave! We would recommend this van to you. Thank you Patrick!
First time ever in a camper van abroad, have to say Diego was a great guy, helpful before our visit, during and made sure everything was smooth sailing/camping, thanks for ramming my sons first camping trip a succcess! R
Lovely campervan with everything you need, friendly owner and easy handover. The only down side was the security deposit process was difficult, as money was being transferred from a UK account to a French one. This was not instant on either transaction and unfortunately we ended up £58 down on our return due to exchange rates. I think using a deposit holding company would be a better option for both parties.
Our trip was truly amazing! The campervan had everything we needed and our host was super kind and helpful :)
Stefano was great I added the airport shuttle option and he was on time and friendly - the van was great i took it up to the Dolomites and it was small enough for all the roads and carparks and the perfect compact van with everything you'd need. It was warm enough and comfortable and useful. Great experience!
Nil and his partner were second time renters now in July 2026, back then Nov 2024. It was great having them again and I only have positive things to say about them :)! They left the van in impeccable condition, each time. They are flexible with timing or if there is any issue. They communicate well. I'm super happy to rent to them again and if any other renter reads this, don't hesitate at all!
