Sittingbourne sits at the heart of the Swale district in Kent, where the Sittingbourne and Kemsley Light Railway still runs heritage steam trains along a 3.2 km track originally built to serve the local paper mills. The town makes a practical base for exploring the North Kent coast and the surrounding countryside. You can wander through the historic Milton Regis, one of the oldest settlements in England, or visit the Dolphin Yard Sailing Barge Museum to learn about the Thames barges that once traded along the Swale estuary. The Sittingbourne Heritage Museum on East Street offers a closer look at the town's industrial past, while the Church of St Michael in the town centre dates back to the 12th century. Canterbury lies just 27 km to the east, and the seaside town of Whitstable is only 19 km to the north-east, giving you easy day-trip options by campervan. The flat terrain and well-connected A2 corridor make driving a motorhome through this part of Kent straightforward, with no steep gradients or narrow lanes to worry about on the main routes. Through Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from local owners in the area, which often means flexible pick-up arrangements and first-hand tips on the best spots to visit around the Swale.
Sittingbourne is well placed for year-round visits, though late spring through to early autumn brings the most comfortable conditions for touring Kent by campervan. The Sittingbourne and Kemsley Light Railway runs its popular steam-up events from April to October, and the Faversham Hop Festival each September is just a short drive away. Summer is the busiest period for coastal campsites near Whitstable and the Isle of Sheppey, so booking your Yescapa hire early is a smart move. Autumn and winter offer quieter roads and lower prices from private owners on the platform, ideal if you prefer a more relaxed pace around Sittingbourne.

The best experience ever!! Amazing van and amazing people who run it
Muchas gracias. Gary y Michelle
Lovely experience and fantastic van. Clean and worked very well. Leonardo and Eleanora were very friendly and helpful. One small feedback is the fridge did not work very well but otherwise its a great van.
Muy buena experiencia. Ana nos ha tratado muy bien.
Proprietários espetaculares e super atenciosos. Autocaravana estava impecável, super confortável, excelente condução. Painéis solares dão autonomia total. Tudo impecável.
We had an amazing trip! Rafaela and Carina were so kind, and we couldn’t recommend their van enough 🤩🙏🏼 The van had everything we needed for a proper “van life” experience, and you can also stay at campsites whenever you want!
