Spain stretches across 505,990 square kilometres of the Iberian Peninsula, making it the second-largest country in Western Europe and home to an extraordinary range of landscapes for road trips. From the rugged cliffs of the Costa Brava to the sun-drenched plains of La Mancha, the country offers a driving experience that shifts dramatically every few hundred kilometres. The 260-km journey from Madrid to Valencia takes you from the high central plateau down through citrus groves to the Mediterranean shore, while the 570-km route from Seville to Barcelona crosses arid Andalusian hills, the wetlands of the Ebro Delta, and the forested slopes of Montserrat. Along the way, you can explore the Alhambra in Granada, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the Roman aqueduct of Segovia, and the Picos de Europa mountain range in the north. Spain's road network is well maintained, with a mix of toll motorways and free dual carriageways that suit both campervans and larger motorhomes. Coastal roads wind past fishing villages, while highland passes open up views across national parks such as Ordesa y Monte Perdido. With Yescapa, you hire directly from local owners spread right across Spain, giving you the flexibility to pick up a campervan in one city and discover a completely different corner of the country at your own pace.
Spain is a year-round destination, though spring and autumn are especially rewarding for campervan travel. April brings the famous Feria de Abril in Seville, filling the city with flamenco and colour, while September's La Mercè festival lights up Barcelona with fireworks and street performances. Summer is the most popular season along the coast, so booking your motorhome early on Yescapa helps you secure the best choice from local owners at competitive peer-to-peer prices. Winter in southern Spain stays mild, making Andalucía ideal for off-season touring with fewer crowds and open campsites.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
This 800-km route traces Spain's entire Mediterranean seaboard. Start in Barcelona, pause at Valencia's City of Arts and Sciences, then continue through Málaga and on to Gibraltar. Coastal campsites are plentiful, and the road suits both campervans and motorhomes.
A compact 220-km loop through Spain's northeastern coastline. Explore the medieval lanes of Tossa de Mar and the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres. Narrow coastal roads are best suited to a campervan, with scenic pull-offs overlooking rocky coves.
Wind through 280 km of rolling hills between Ronda and Arcos de la Frontera, passing whitewashed pueblos blancos. The route crosses the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park, where mountain campsites offer peaceful overnight stops for motorhomes and campervans alike.
Follow 450 km of Spain's green northern shore from San Sebastián to Gijón. Stop at the Altamira Cave replica near Santillana del Mar and hike in the Picos de Europa. Well-spaced campsites along the coast make this route ideal for a relaxed motorhome trip.
This 400-km drive heads south through Spain's Levante region. Visit the palm groves of Elche and the volcanic landscapes of Cabo de Gata Natural Park near Almería. Flat, well-maintained roads make it comfortable for larger campervans and motorhomes.
A 650-km circuit from Madrid through Toledo's historic old town and Córdoba's Mezquita before reaching the coast at Málaga. The route combines Spain's cultural heartland with its southern shores, offering varied campsites from inland plains to beachside pitches.

Spain offers a wide variety of campsites spread from the Mediterranean coast to the mountainous north. Whether you are travelling in a compact campervan or a full-size motorhome, you will find pitches with electrical hook-ups, fresh water, waste disposal points, and modern shower blocks. Coastal sites often include direct beach access and swimming pools, while inland and mountain campsites provide quieter surroundings with walking trails nearby.
Spain has an extensive motorway network of over 17,000 km, split between toll roads (autopistas, marked AP) and free highways (autovías, marked A). Tolls are paid at booths by card or cash, with costs varying by route — the AP-7 along the Mediterranean coast is one of the busiest. Speed limits for motorhomes under 3,500 kg are 120 km/h on motorways and 90 km/h on conventional roads; vehicles over 3,500 kg are limited to 90 km/h on motorways. Rest areas with services appear regularly along major routes, and many include dedicated spaces for larger vehicles.
We absolutely loved our time in the caddy! Everything was great, from the collection, the functionality and the communication. The van is small but mighty, the owners have thought of every little detail (sink, shower, storage, kitchen, and a good sized comfy bed). We highly recommend using Yescapa and hiring this van- perfect for your dolomites adventure!
We hired the van for 8 nights and it was perfect. Went up to the mountains and down to the beach. It was very spacious and well kitted out. The owners are also lovely, accommodating and quick to reply to our message
Both Jesus and Susana were very communicative and made the rental process very easy. The van is basically new in very good condition and easy to handle. It was fun cooking in remote places having a beautiful view and having a large fridge really helped to keep all cool and fresh. We had a nice time with it and would certainly recommend it to others.
