Kelty sits at the foot of the Ochil Hills in Perth and Kinross, just 8 km north of Dunfermline and roughly 50 km from Edinburgh. Once a thriving mining village, it now serves as a peaceful base for exploring central Scotland's countryside. The Kelty Heritage Trail traces the area's industrial past through a series of information boards and restored pathways, while Lochore Meadows Country Park lies only 3 km to the east, offering over 400 hectares of parkland, a loch for watersports, and well-maintained walking routes. For a bigger day out, the historic town of Culross — one of Scotland's best-preserved 17th-century villages — is 18 km to the south-west along the Firth of Forth. Heading north, Perth is 45 km away and opens the door to the Scottish Highlands. The roads around Kelty are generally wide and well-surfaced, making them comfortable for larger vehicles, and the M90 motorway is minutes from the village centre, connecting you quickly to Edinburgh, Dundee, and beyond. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from a local owner in the area, which often means flexible pick-up arrangements and helpful tips on where to go. It is a practical, community-driven way to start your Scottish road trip from a location that keeps you close to both coast and countryside.
Kelty is a great base from late April through to September, when longer daylight hours let you make the most of Lochore Meadows Country Park and the surrounding hills. The Loch Leven Half Marathon in May draws runners and spectators to nearby Kinross, and the Dunfermline Summer Festival in July fills the neighbouring town with live music and family events. Booking a campervan through Yescapa during spring or early autumn can offer excellent value, as peer-to-peer hire prices tend to be lower outside the peak summer weeks. Whenever you visit, the M90 keeps travel smooth for motorhomes heading north or south.
Kelty is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Head 18 km south-west from Kelty to Culross, one of Scotland's finest 17th-century villages. Explore Culross Palace and its terraced gardens, then continue along the Firth of Forth to Charlestown for harbour views. Campervan parking is available near the village centre, and the coastal roads are wide and easy to navigate.
Drive 55 km north-east from Kelty across the Tay Bridge or via the A91 to reach St Andrews. Walk the ruins of St Andrews Cathedral, stroll along West Sands beach, and visit the British Golf Museum. Motorhome-friendly parking is available at Craigtoun Country Park just outside town.
Travel 120 km north from Kelty through Perth and into Highland Perthshire to reach Pitlochry. Stop at Dunkeld to see the cathedral, then continue to the Pitlochry Dam Visitor Centre and its famous fish ladder. Campervan pitches are plentiful in the area, and the A9 is well suited to larger vehicles.
Cover 150 km west from Kelty through Stirling and Crianlarich to reach the coastal town of Oban. Visit McCaig's Tower for panoramic views and catch a ferry to the Isle of Mull. The A85 offers scenic driving with regular laybys, and several campsites sit along the route near Loch Earn.
Head 210 km north from Kelty along the A9 to Inverness, gateway to the Highlands. Break the journey at Blair Castle near Blair Atholl and pause at Aviemore for the Cairngorms National Park. Motorhome services are available at several stops along the route, making this a comfortable long-distance trip.
Set off 280 km north-west from Kelty, passing Fort William and the shores of Loch Ness before crossing the Skye Bridge. Explore the Old Man of Storr and Fairy Pools near Glenbrittle. Campervan travellers should plan stops carefully, as single-track roads on Skye require patience and passing-place etiquette.

Beyond happy with the whole experience. The motorhome was very comfy and had everything we needed for our little girls camping trip. More importantly the owners were extremely friendly and beyond helpful at all times with the vehicle, the routes, the airport pickups and dropp offs and many many more things! All and all very happy with this experience!
The experience was seemles from start to finish. Handover was very straightforward with all the major information required exchanged. Fabian the owner remained available during the trip for any issues that may arise. The vehicle was as advertised and in very good condition. Very nice camping caravan, equipped with everything that you could need. The return process was straightforward when returning vehicle. Also my car was kept securley stored at the location for arrival and drop off. Overall very good experience and i would highly recommend and use again in the future.
We really enjoyed our travels around Brittany in Clarisse's camper van. It was comfortable and easy to drive and had everything we needed for our holiday. Clarisse explained everything clearly to us before we set off.
