What you need to know about roads and motorways in South Lanarkshire

South Lanarkshire is well connected by the M74 motorway, which runs north–south through the region linking Glasgow to the English border. There are no toll roads in the area. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.05 tonnes are 50 mph on single carriageways and 60 mph on dual carriageways and motorways. The A72 Clyde Valley route is a popular scenic road but features narrow stretches, so take care with larger vehicles. Rest areas and service stations are available along the M74, and smaller A-roads through the Lowther Hills may have limited passing places in upland sections.
