Scotland's North Coast 500 route covers 830 kilometres of dramatic coastline, widely regarded as one of the world's most spectacular driving circuits. From the historic streets of Edinburgh to the rugged peaks of the Cairngorms National Park, this is a country built for exploration on four wheels. You can trace the shores of Loch Lomond, cross the Forth Bridge, wander through the medieval Old Town of Stirling, and stand beneath the towering ridgeline of Ben Nevis — all within a few days' drive. Edinburgh to Inverness is roughly 250 kilometres via the A9, while Glasgow to Fort William covers around 170 kilometres through some of Scotland's most memorable landscapes. Single-track roads in the Highlands, sweeping coastal routes in the west, and gentle lowland lanes in the Borders give you a genuine variety of driving experiences. Whether you prefer a compact campervan for narrow Highland passes or a larger motorhome for family comfort, Yescapa connects you with private owners across Scotland, so you can pick up your vehicle close to where your trip begins. Hiring a campervan through our peer-to-peer platform means more choice, local knowledge from owners, and the freedom to plan a Scottish road trip entirely on your own terms.
Scotland's touring season runs from April through October, with the longest daylight hours falling in June and July — ideal for making the most of every stop. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe fills the capital each August, making it a brilliant time to combine culture with a campervan adventure. September and October bring quieter roads and autumn colour across the Highlands, perfect for a more relaxed pace. Booking through Yescapa during the shoulder months often means better availability and more competitive hire prices from private owners. Plan ahead for summer if you want the widest choice of motorhomes and campervans across Scotland.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
This 200 km loop takes you through the rolling hills of the Scottish Borders over 3–5 days. Visit the ruins of Melrose Abbey, explore Jedburgh's historic centre, and stop at Abbotsford House. Quiet roads suit campervans perfectly, with plenty of small-town stopovers along the way.
Covering 400 km over 5–8 days, this route runs from Glasgow through Glencoe to Fort William and on to Mallaig. Take in the Glenfinnan Viaduct and the shores of Loch Linnhe. Motorhomes are welcome at well-equipped sites dotted along the A82 and beyond.
A 250 km route over 3–6 days tracing the Fife coastline from the Forth bridges to St Andrews and on to the East Neuk fishing villages of Crail and Anstruther. Flat, easy roads make this ideal for any campervan, with seafood stops and sandy beaches throughout.
Spend 5–8 days on this 450 km route from Dundee through Aberdeen and into Speyside. Tour distilleries at Glenfiddich and Macallan, then follow the coast past Dunnottar Castle. Scotland's northeast offers spacious campsites and well-maintained A-roads for motorhomes.
Scotland's legendary 830 km circuit starts and ends in Inverness, looping through Durness, Lochinver, and John o' Groats over 7–15 days. Single-track roads reward patient drivers with extraordinary coastal scenery. A campervan keeps you nimble on the narrower stretches.
This 600 km adventure over 7–11 days links the mainland to Skye, then hops by ferry to the Outer Hebrides — Lewis, Harris, and the Uists. Book ferries through CalMac in advance. Scotland's island campsites are well spaced and welcome both campervans and motorhomes.

Scotland offers campsites in almost every landscape, from lochside pitches in the Highlands to coastal spots overlooking Atlantic beaches and well-serviced parks near its major cities. Most sites provide electric hook-ups, fresh water, and waste disposal suitable for both campervans and motorhomes. You will find options ranging from basic forestry sites to fully equipped holiday parks with showers, laundry, and on-site shops — giving you flexibility however you choose to explore Scotland.
Scotland has no toll roads, so you can travel freely without worrying about charges. The national speed limit on single carriageways is 60 mph and 70 mph on dual carriageways, though motorhomes over 3,500 kg are limited to 50 mph on single carriageways and 60 mph on dual carriageways. Many Highland routes feature single-track roads with passing places — pull in to let oncoming traffic pass and allow faster vehicles behind you to overtake. The A9 between Perth and Inverness includes average speed cameras along much of its length, so keep a steady pace.
My partner and I have been on van trips before, but only borrowing friend's vans in the UK. This was our first time renting a van abroad, first time using Yescapa and first time exploring the Picos de Europa. Overall it was a super smooth experience and enabled us to have one of the best holidays ever - so we would fully recommend! Firstly, the booking experience. We were visiting during the eclipse and so we were wary that everything was getting booked up. We stumbled upon Yescapa and this van, then the booking experience was pretty simple so it kind of felt too good to be true. Picking up the van was a doddle, with all the instructions sent clearly over WhatsApp. This meant we felt comfortable hitting the ground running. Secondly, the van was absolutely perfect for our holiday. The shower out the back was perfect for cooling down and cleaning off after runs. The camp stove worked great for making porridge in the morning, and we were grateful for the included chairs - especially when it came to watching the eclipse. We found that the fridge tended to heat the cabin when it was running which meant it worked quite well for helping control the temperature i.e. we'd leave the fridge running if there was a cold night due. Finally, thank you to Safira the host for letting us use the van for our wonderful trip. She was very quick to respond to any questions, and super lovely in helping us out during pick-up and drop-off.
We had a lovely few days in France in the motorhome. We picked up about 30 minutes from Calais which was very convenient for the ferry. The van had everything we needed and we had a great time visiting the Normandy beaches and D day sites.
We had the best experience with this campervan and were so sad when it was time to hand it back! We had it for 3 nights during peak summer at a really reasonable price, and it was absolutely perfect for our little adventure. The host was fantastic and always replied incredibly quickly whenever we had a question. The van itself had everything we could possibly need and more. You can really tell that the owner has thought about all the little details — from salt and pepper, coffee and tea, to plenty of kitchenware and even a coffee machine! The bed was super comfortable and really easy to assemble, and the fan worked brilliantly, which was definitely appreciated during the summer heat. We honestly loved every minute of van life and were genuinely sad to leave. Thank you for helping make our trip so special — we would definitely recommend this campervan to anyone looking for an amazing adventure!
Fantastic rental, they were so helpful and got us all set up for our first ever campervan trip. The van was spotless and practically brand new. Everything was so easy to use and we just sent up the bed each day as we set off for each new place.
Easy to the find location of the vehicle it was a 20 min journey from the airport. We went over all the features quickly was easy to understand. I had a great few days using the camper and would definitely use again. Thanks
Very nice car rental. Very easy to deal with.
