What you need to know about roads and motorways in Scotland

Scotland has no toll roads, so you can travel freely without worrying about charges. The national speed limit on single carriageways is 60 mph and 70 mph on dual carriageways, though motorhomes over 3,500 kg are limited to 50 mph on single carriageways and 60 mph on dual carriageways. Many Highland routes feature single-track roads with passing places — pull in to let oncoming traffic pass and allow faster vehicles behind you to overtake. The A9 between Perth and Inverness includes average speed cameras along much of its length, so keep a steady pace.
