North Lanarkshire is home to the Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life in Coatbridge, one of only a few museums in Scotland built directly on the site of a former ironworks, complete with a reconstructed tramway that carries visitors through the grounds. Stretching across central Scotland's lowlands, this council area sits between Glasgow and Edinburgh, making it a practical base for exploring both cities — Glasgow is just 19 km to the west, while Edinburgh lies roughly 65 km to the east. The landscape blends post-industrial heritage with surprising green spaces: Strathclyde Country Park near Motherwell offers over 400 hectares of parkland around a man-made loch, while Palacerigg Country Park near Cumbernauld provides woodland trails and wildlife encounters. History enthusiasts can visit Bothwellhaugh Roman Bath House, one of the best-preserved Roman remains in Scotland, or wander through the ruins of Cambusnethan Priory. The Clyde Walkway passes through the area too, connecting walkers and cyclists to a network of routes along the River Clyde. For those exploring by campervan or motorhome, North Lanarkshire's central position means you can reach the Trossachs, Loch Lomond, and the Lanarkshire countryside without long drives. With Yescapa, you hire your campervan directly from local owners across the region, giving you flexibility and a personal touch that makes planning your trip straightforward.
North Lanarkshire is enjoyable from spring through autumn. May and June bring longer days and mild temperatures ideal for exploring parks and heritage sites by campervan. The Motherwell Food and Drink Festival typically takes place in late summer, celebrating local produce. Autumn is quieter, with golden colours across Strathclyde Country Park and Palacerigg. Booking through Yescapa outside peak July and August months means you benefit from competitive peer-to-peer pricing, and you will find more vehicle choice from local owners across North Lanarkshire. Plan ahead for summer weekends to secure your preferred motorhome.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
Start in Motherwell and follow the Clyde Valley south through Wishaw and Carluke to the Falls of Clyde at New Lanark. This 120 km loop suits campervans perfectly, with gentle roads winding past orchards and historic villages. Stop at Craignethan Castle before returning north.
From Coatbridge, head east through Airdrie and across to Bathgate, then loop south to Lanark and back. At around 150 km, this route takes in Summerlee Museum, Beecraigs Country Park, and the World Heritage Site of New Lanark — ideal for a motorhome at a relaxed pace.
Leave North Lanarkshire via Cumbernauld, head north to Stirling and the Ochil Hills, then curve east to Linlithgow and Edinburgh. This 300 km campervan route avoids motorways in favour of scenic A-roads, passing Falkirk's Kelpies and the Antonine Wall along the way.
Head west from North Lanarkshire to Loch Lomond, then north through the Trossachs National Park via Callander and Aberfoyle. This 350 km route offers lochs, forests, and mountain views. Campsites with motorhome hook-ups are plentiful around Balloch and Aberfoyle.
Drive south from Motherwell through Biggar and into the Scottish Borders, reaching Jedburgh and Kelso before turning east to the Berwickshire coast. At 550 km, this campervan journey covers rolling farmland, abbey ruins, and dramatic North Sea cliffs near St Abbs.
From North Lanarkshire, travel north via Stirling to Perth, then on to Pitlochry and Blair Atholl before looping back through Crieff and Dunblane. This 650 km motorhome route crosses the Highland Boundary Fault, with well-equipped campsites at key stops throughout Perthshire.

North Lanarkshire and its surroundings offer a good range of campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. You will find sites with electric hook-ups, waste disposal points, and modern shower blocks. From parkland settings near Motherwell to rural spots closer to the Clyde Valley, there is variety to match your travel style across North Lanarkshire.
North Lanarkshire is well connected by the M8 motorway linking Glasgow and Edinburgh, and the M74 running south towards England. Motorways in Scotland are toll-free, so you can travel without worrying about charges. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.05 tonnes are 60 mph on motorways and 50 mph on single carriageway roads. The A73 and A71 provide useful routes into the Lanarkshire countryside, though some rural roads are narrower, so take care with larger vehicles. Rest areas and service stations are well spaced along the M8 and M74 corridors.
Communication was easy, the vehicle is in good condition and looks like the shared photos. Has the amenities needed and comfy bedding. Having the solar charger is a plus given we didn't drive much, so there was no need for recharging with electricity.
We rented Jorge’s lovely caravan for four days as a mother and daughter trip to celebrate a 55th birthday. It was our first caravan experience, and we honestly loved it! Jorge offers several convenient extras for a small fee, including airport transfers, cleaning. Despite our late-night flight from London, he met us on arrival, gave us a thorough tour of the caravan, and even suggested we record it on our phones, which proved very helpful. A bottle of cold water waiting in the fridge was such a thoughtful touch. After arriving at 1 am in 34°C heat with no open shops nearby, it was a huge relief. We had a small issue with the fridge and also opening the water refill cap, but Jorge happily helped us over a video call. We never felt abandoned - he was always kind, responsive, and professional. The caravan is practical, comfortable, and well-equipped with everything we needed. Our deposit was also returned promptly. Thank you, Jorge, for making our first caravan holiday such a great experience and sorry about the hard to reach sauce spillage again!
This was our first experience hiring a van and it was very good. Patrick was super helpful and friendly. We experienced some problems with the battery but Patrick was very responsive and helpful trying to solve this. The van has everything you need, although a cradle for your phone would be useful if using for directions as there is no satnav. The bed was surprisingly spacious and very comfy- we slept very well considering the 40 degree heat wave! We would recommend this van to you. Thank you Patrick!
First time ever in a camper van abroad, have to say Diego was a great guy, helpful before our visit, during and made sure everything was smooth sailing/camping, thanks for ramming my sons first camping trip a succcess! R
