Why choose Dundee for your road trip

Dundee — a city worth exploring

Dundee's V&A Dundee, designed by Kengo Kuma, became Scotland's first dedicated design museum when it opened on the waterfront in 2018. Sitting on the north bank of the Firth of Tay, the city blends maritime heritage with a creative energy that makes it a rewarding base for exploring eastern Scotland. The RRS Discovery, the ship that carried Scott and Shackleton to Antarctica in 1901, is permanently berthed at Discovery Point, where you can step aboard and trace the expedition's story. A short walk along the waterfront brings you to Dundee Contemporary Arts, a centre for film, print and exhibitions. Inland, The McManus: Dundee's Art Gallery & Museum houses collections spanning archaeology, art and local history inside a striking Gothic Revival building. For green space, Dundee Law rises 174 metres above the city and rewards a short climb with panoramic views across both Tay bridges and into Fife. Perth lies just 35 km to the west along the A90, while St Andrews and its famous Old Course sit 23 km to the south across the Tay Road Bridge. The roads around Dundee are well suited to larger vehicles, with dual carriageways connecting the city to the wider Scottish network. Through Yescapa, you hire your campervan or motorhome directly from local owners in the Dundee area, giving you the flexibility to collect a vehicle nearby and set off at your own pace. It is a straightforward, peer-to-peer way to begin a Scottish road trip from a city that genuinely deserves your time.

Best time to visit

Dundee enjoys long daylight hours from May to September, making it an ideal window for campervan touring along the Angus coast and into the Cairngorms. The Dundee Flower and Food Festival in September fills Camperdown Country Park with local produce and live cookery, while the Dundee Design Festival in May celebrates the city's creative identity. Summer is the busiest period, so booking your motorhome early on Yescapa helps you lock in the best choice from local owners at peer-to-peer prices. Spring and autumn bring quieter roads and colourful landscapes, perfect for unhurried drives through Perthshire and Fife.

We had an amazing trip! Rafaela and Carina were so kind, and we couldn’t recommend their van enough 🤩🙏🏼 The van had everything we needed for a proper “van life” experience, and you can also stay at campsites whenever you want!

We hired a motorhome from Cemil for a week to travel around Switzerland. We also visited France, Germany and Liechtenstein. Before the trip Cemil was helpful and responded to questions promptly. On the day of pick up he met us at the train station and the handover was smooth and quick. At the end if the trip it was also a very smooth transition and Cemil kindly drove us back to the airport. The van was great - very easy to drive and everything worked perfectly. All tolls and insurance were covered. We were very happy with the motorhome and would highly recommend renting from Cemil.

We had a great experience hiring this motorhome. Everything went smoothly and we had absolutely zero issues throughout our trip. Fernando kept us informed about everything from the beginning and was very friendly and helpful. He was also very flexible with both the pickup and drop-off times, which made everything much easier. The location is perfect, especially if you're arriving via Prague Airport. We travelled all the way to Hungary and back to Poland, staying at several off-grid locations along the way. We had an amazing time at Lake Balaton in Hungary and also loved our stay at the Pod Opaleńcem campsite in Świeradów-Zdrój, Poland. We would definitely recommend this motorhome hire and would happily rent from Fernando again!
