What you need to know about roads and motorways in Lothian

Lothian's roads are toll-free, so you can travel without worrying about charges. The M8 and M9 motorways connect Edinburgh to Glasgow and Stirling respectively, with a national speed limit of 60 mph for motorhomes over 3.05 tonnes on single carriageways and 70 mph on dual carriageways. The A1 runs east along the coast towards Dunbar and is well suited to larger vehicles. In Edinburgh itself, a Low Emission Zone applies in the city centre, so check your vehicle's compliance before driving in.
