Why hire a campervan or motorhome in Edinburgh Airport

Edinburgh Airport — a region worth exploring

Edinburgh Airport sits just 13 kilometres west of Scotland's capital, making it one of the most convenient starting points for a campervan or motorhome adventure across the country. From here, you can reach the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle in under 30 minutes, or head north towards the Forth Bridge — a UNESCO World Heritage Site spanning 2,529 metres across the Firth of Forth. The airport's location on the M8/M9 corridor means you're well connected to Glasgow (75 km west) and Stirling (58 km north), two cities that open up very different sides of Scotland. Heading east, the coastline of East Lothian offers sandy beaches and golf links, while driving north across the Queensferry Crossing puts the Highlands within easy reach. Arthur's Seat, the ancient volcano rising 251 metres above Edinburgh, is a landmark you can spot from the airport approach — and a reminder that dramatic landscapes begin right on the doorstep. Whether you fancy exploring the Pentland Hills just south of the city or setting off on a longer journey to Loch Lomond, hiring a campervan or motorhome near Edinburgh Airport gives you the freedom to go at your own pace. With Yescapa, you hire directly from local owners based across the Edinburgh area, choosing from a wide range of vehicles — from compact campervans ideal for couples to larger motorhomes suited to families. It's a flexible, personal way to start your Scottish road trip.

Best time to visit

May to September is the prime window for hiring a campervan near Edinburgh Airport, with long daylight hours and mild temperatures ideal for touring. August brings the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the world's largest arts festival, filling the city with performances and energy — book your Yescapa vehicle well ahead for this period. The Royal Highland Show in June at Ingliston, right beside the airport, is another highlight worth timing your trip around. Spring and autumn offer quieter roads and lower hire prices through Yescapa's peer-to-peer platform, with owners often setting competitive rates outside peak season. Winter travel is perfectly doable too, especially for exploring Edinburgh's famous Hogmanay celebrations.

What you need to know about roads and motorways in Edinburgh Airport

Scotland's motorways and major A-roads are toll-free, so you can drive your motorhome or campervan from Edinburgh Airport without worrying about charges. The M8 connects Edinburgh to Glasgow, while the M9 heads north towards Stirling. Speed limits for vehicles over 3,500 kg are 60 mph on single carriageways and 70 mph on dual carriageways and motorways — the same as cars for most campervans under that weight. Roads narrow considerably once you leave the central belt, so plan for single-track roads with passing places in the Highlands. Rest areas and laybys are well signposted on major routes.

We hired Trina for 5 nights earlier this July. My girlfriend and I had a fantastic time on the island. Jandro was incredibly helpful, always on hand before and during the trip to answer any questions which really helped us navigate the island and enjoy our trip. The vehicle was fantastic, an incredible experience to drive. All the amenities were brilliant as well. I would highly recommend using Jandro and one of his vans for a fantastic Mallorca experience!

Communication with the owner was great, van was immaculate, heaps of choice, love the peer to peer concept. Easy to add an extra driver and ID checks were very thorough but straightforward. Changing dates wasn't so easy, the owner was great, but the process at the back end took some manual effort. Teething problems, not a big deal. Main area that needs improving (for me anyway) is the deposit. There was a single line in a table stating Deposit: cash or transfer, that I hadn't seen. The owner asked for the cash or a transfer when we were at the car, which he explained was normal process, but Yescapa could have explained beforehand. I transferred €2000 directly to the owner, which didn't feel comfortable. I had expected this would all be done via Yescapa. I ended up losing €45 in exchange rate variations + fees as well, the owner's bank had challenges which meant it to 5 days to get a lot of cash back. It was lucky we had that amount at hand. I would use Yescapa again. I hope they can tidy up and improve the processes though.

Incredible time spent across the south of France with an incredible van! From beach, lakes, mountains and fields, it got me places I didn’t even pre conceive. Can’t speak more highly of my over all experience from van collection at train station to drop off. Drives smoother than my Suzuki jimny and can confirm very 6ft 4 friendly.

We had an amazing experience hiring Eli's campervan! It was perfect for our family of four – myself, my partner, and our two young daughters. The van was spotless, comfortable, and had everything we needed for our trip. It was easy to drive, well-equipped, and made exploring the malaga so much more enjoyable. The owners were friendly, helpful, and made the whole rental process smooth from start to finish. We made some unforgettable family memories and wouldn't hesitate to rent this campervan again. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a fun, comfortable, and hassle-free adventure in Spain. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
