What you need to know about roads and motorways in Somerset

Somerset's main routes include the M5 motorway, which runs north–south through the county connecting Bristol to Exeter, and the A303, which crosses the south of the region towards Devon. Neither route charges tolls. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are 50 mph on single carriageways and 60 mph on dual carriageways and motorways. Many of Somerset's rural lanes are single-track with passing places, so plan your route if you are driving a larger vehicle.
