Why hire a campervan or motorhome in Bristol Airport

Bristol Airport — a region worth exploring

Bristol Airport (BRS) handles over eight million passengers each year and sits just 13 km south-west of Bristol city centre, making it a practical starting point for exploring the south-west of England by road. From the terminal you can reach the harbour city of Bristol in around 25 minutes, while Bath — famous for its Roman Baths and Georgian Royal Crescent — is only 32 km to the east. Head south-west and within 90 km you arrive at the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site stretching 154 km along the Dorset and East Devon shoreline. Northward, the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales lies roughly 100 km away, offering open moorland and reservoir-side parking spots ideal for campervans. The Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty begins practically on the airport's doorstep, with Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole Caves both less than 30 km from the runway. Roads fan out efficiently: the M5 motorway runs north to south, connecting Bristol to Exeter in about 120 km, while the M4 heads east towards London or west into South Wales. This network of dual carriageways and A-roads makes the area well suited to motorhome travel, with plenty of room to plan circular routes. Through Yescapa you can hire a campervan directly from local owners based around Bristol, choosing from compact two-berth vans to larger family motorhomes — a peer-to-peer approach that often means more flexible pick-up arrangements close to the airport itself.

Best time to visit

May to September is the prime window for a campervan trip from Bristol Airport, when longer daylight hours open up the south-west's coastal and countryside routes. The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta in August draws hundreds of hot-air balloons over the city and is free to attend. In late June, the Glastonbury Festival takes place roughly 50 km south of Bristol, so booking your Yescapa motorhome early for that period is wise. Spring and autumn bring quieter roads and lower hire costs through Yescapa's peer-to-peer platform, with campsite availability across Somerset and Devon far easier to secure outside the school holidays.

What you need to know about roads and motorways in Bristol Airport

The M5 and M4 motorways intersect near Bristol Airport, giving you fast access north, south, and east. UK motorways are toll-free except for the M6 Toll near Birmingham. Speed limits for motorhomes under 3,050 kg mirror car limits — 70 mph on motorways, 60 mph on dual carriageways — but vehicles over 3,050 kg are restricted to 60 mph on motorways and 50 mph on single carriageways. Motorway service stations appear roughly every 30 miles and most offer dedicated parking bays for larger vehicles. The A-roads heading into Devon and Cornwall can narrow considerably, so plan routes carefully if you are driving a wider motorhome.

I had the most wonderful trip in Eve’s van. It has everything you need, a great sized fridge, a large comfy bed, cooking equipment, electrics to be off grid, a great shower & toilet. The van ran very smoothly and was a perfect size even driving through the towns was no problem at all. They were very accommodating, helping me with local tip and recommendations. I’d 100% recommend this van to anyone thinking of taking a road trip, you won’t regret it :)

Inigio and his lovely girlfriend looked after Dolly for one week here in the Algarve area. They brought her back clean and in really good shape. Before and during the rental period we had a very good dialogue. I can highly reccomend them to lend your car. :-)

Fantastic experience. Raul really went above and beyond to help us out and was always responsive with any queries we had. The van was in excellent condition, had everything we needed, and was ideal for our trip into the Pyrenees, plus heading south for the solar eclipse. Would highly recommend.
