Dorset's Jurassic Coast stretches for 95 miles along the English Channel, earning UNESCO World Heritage status for its 185-million-year geological timeline visible in exposed cliffs and fossils. From the natural limestone arch of Durdle Door to the vast shingle sweep of Chesil Beach, this county packs an extraordinary variety of landscapes into a compact area. The distance from Bournemouth in the east to Lyme Regis in the west is roughly 50 miles, making it ideal for a leisurely campervan tour with plenty of stops along the way. Inland, you can explore Corfe Castle, a dramatic ruin perched above the Purbeck Hills, or wander through the ancient woodland of Cranborne Chase, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The market towns of Dorchester and Sherborne offer local food markets and independent shops, while the harbour at Poole — one of the largest natural harbours in the world — is a great base for water sports and coastal walks. Roads through Dorset are generally well-maintained, though some lanes in the Purbeck peninsula and along the coast are narrow and winding, so a campervan can be more practical than a larger motorhome in certain spots. With Yescapa, you hire directly from local owners across Dorset and the surrounding counties, giving you a wide choice of vehicles suited to the region's mix of country lanes and open roads. It is a genuinely rewarding county to discover at your own pace.
May to September is the prime window for a campervan trip through Dorset, when coastal paths and campsites are fully open. The Great Dorset Steam Fair, held each August near Blandford Forum, draws thousands and is worth planning around. Spring wildflowers carpet the clifftops from April, and autumn brings quieter roads plus golden colours across Cranborne Chase. Yescapa's peer-to-peer model means you can often find competitive hire prices outside the July–August peak, especially for midweek bookings. Book early for summer to secure the best choice of vehicles from Dorset-based owners.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
Follow the coast from Bournemouth to Lyme Regis over roughly 130 km, stopping at Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, and the fossil-rich beaches of Charmouth. Campervan-friendly car parks sit at most viewpoints, and several clifftop campsites offer pitches with sea views.
A 95 km circuit from Wareham through Corfe Castle, Swanage, and Studland Bay before returning via the Sandbanks chain ferry. This compact Dorset loop suits smaller campervans on narrow lanes and includes beaches, castle ruins, and heathland walks.
Start in Dorchester — Thomas Hardy's Casterbridge — and wind 200 km through Cerne Abbas, Sherborne, and Shaftesbury with its famous Gold Hill. Dorset's rolling chalk downs offer open roads ideal for a motorhome, plus farm-shop stops and quiet overnight sites.
Combine Dorset's coastline and interior on this 300 km route linking Poole, Weymouth, Bridport, Beaminster, and Blandford Forum. You pass through two AONBs and can break the journey at well-equipped campsites with electric hook-ups and shower blocks.
Head west from Bournemouth through Dorset into East Devon, covering around 480 km via Axminster, Sidmouth, and back through Lyme Regis and Abbotsbury. A campervan gives you flexibility to linger at the Jurassic Coast's western highlights and quiet Devon villages.
This 550 km Dorset-based circuit extends to Salisbury, the New Forest, and the Dorset coast before looping inland through Wimborne Minster and Cranborne Chase. Ideal for a motorhome, with plenty of serviced sites and historic landmarks at every turn.

Dorset offers a wide range of campsites spread from the coast to the rural interior. Along the Jurassic Coast you will find clifftop pitches with sea views and easy beach access, while inland sites sit among farmland and woodland. Most welcome both campervans and motorhomes, with facilities including electric hook-ups, waste disposal points, showers, and on-site shops. Booking ahead is recommended for coastal Dorset sites during summer.
Dorset has no motorways, so most travel is via A-roads such as the A35, which runs east–west through the county linking Bournemouth to Honiton. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.05 tonnes are 50 mph on single carriageways and 60 mph on dual carriageways. There are no toll roads in Dorset. Many rural routes through the Purbeck Hills and along the coast are single-track with passing places, so take your time and check your vehicle's width before heading down narrow lanes. Lay-bys and signed rest stops are common along the A35 and A31 corridors.
Communication with the owner was great, van was immaculate, heaps of choice, love the peer to peer concept. Easy to add an extra driver and ID checks were very thorough but straightforward. Changing dates wasn't so easy, the owner was great, but the process at the back end took some manual effort. Teething problems, not a big deal. Main area that needs improving (for me anyway) is the deposit. There was a single line in a table stating Deposit: cash or transfer, that I hadn't seen. The owner asked for the cash or a transfer when we were at the car, which he explained was normal process, but Yescapa could have explained beforehand. I transferred €2000 directly to the owner, which didn't feel comfortable. I had expected this would all be done via Yescapa. I ended up losing €45 in exchange rate variations + fees as well, the owner's bank had challenges which meant it to 5 days to get a lot of cash back. It was lucky we had that amount at hand. I would use Yescapa again. I hope they can tidy up and improve the processes though.
Very easy and open person… all went well , on time and with all the agremants.
Incredible time spent across the south of France with an incredible van! From beach, lakes, mountains and fields, it got me places I didn’t even pre conceive. Can’t speak more highly of my over all experience from van collection at train station to drop off. Drives smoother than my Suzuki jimny and can confirm very 6ft 4 friendly.
We had an amazing experience hiring Eli's campervan! It was perfect for our family of four – myself, my partner, and our two young daughters. The van was spotless, comfortable, and had everything we needed for our trip. It was easy to drive, well-equipped, and made exploring the malaga so much more enjoyable. The owners were friendly, helpful, and made the whole rental process smooth from start to finish. We made some unforgettable family memories and wouldn't hesitate to rent this campervan again. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a fun, comfortable, and hassle-free adventure in Spain. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We had a great experience. All went smoothly and the camper van was perfect. Mike was very accommodating and communicative throughout and we would recommend highly.
Communication was easy, the vehicle is in good condition and looks like the shared photos. Has the amenities needed and comfy bedding. Having the solar charger is a plus given we didn't drive much, so there was no need for recharging with electricity.
