Why choose Bath for your road trip

Bath — a city worth exploring

Bath's Roman Baths complex, fed by Britain's only naturally hot spring at 46°C, has drawn visitors for over 2,000 years. This UNESCO World Heritage city in Somerset blends Georgian grandeur with a lively cultural scene, making it a rewarding base for any road trip through south-west England. Stroll along the Royal Crescent, a sweeping arc of 30 terraced houses designed by John Wood the Younger in 1774, then head to Bath Abbey to admire its fan-vaulted ceiling. The Holburne Museum, set at the end of Great Pulteney Street, houses an impressive collection of fine art and decorative pieces. For green space, Prior Park Landscape Garden offers panoramic views across the city and its Palladian bridge is one of only four in the world. Bristol lies just 19 km to the west, while the market town of Frome is roughly 21 km to the south-east — both make excellent day trips. The surrounding countryside features rolling hills and narrow lanes typical of the Cotswolds fringe, so a compact campervan can be easier to navigate than a larger vehicle. With Yescapa, you hire directly from local owners in the Bath area, which means you can pick up a motorhome nearby and set off without the hassle of a long transfer. Peer-to-peer hiring also gives you access to a wider choice of campervans at different price points, so you can match the vehicle to your plans.

Best time to visit

Bath is enjoyable year-round, though late spring through early autumn brings the longest days for exploring. The Bath Festival in May fills the city with music, literature and art, while the Bath Christmas Market in late November and December transforms the streets around the Abbey into a festive destination. Summer is the busiest season, so booking your campervan through Yescapa early helps you secure the best choice and competitive peer-to-peer prices. Autumn is quieter, with golden colours across the surrounding hills — ideal for a relaxed motorhome trip with fewer crowds on the road.

Where to park your motorhome

Bath operates a Park and Ride system that works well for larger vehicles, letting you leave your campervan on the outskirts and catch a bus into the centre. Overnight parking in the city itself is restricted for motorhomes, so plan to return to your campsite in the evening. Always check height barriers before entering any multi-storey facility, as most are unsuitable for taller vehicles.

  • Lansdown Park and Ride, 3km north — Large open-air car park north of the city with regular bus services to the centre. Suitable for campervans under 3 m height.
  • Newbridge Park and Ride, 3km west — West of Bath with frequent buses into town. Open surface parking with good space for wider vehicles.
  • Odd Down Park and Ride, 3km south — South of the city near the A367. Flat, open layout with easy access for motorhomes. No overnight stays permitted.

We had an amazing trip! Rafaela and Carina were so kind, and we couldn’t recommend their van enough 🤩🙏🏼 The van had everything we needed for a proper “van life” experience, and you can also stay at campsites whenever you want!

We hired a motorhome from Cemil for a week to travel around Switzerland. We also visited France, Germany and Liechtenstein. Before the trip Cemil was helpful and responded to questions promptly. On the day of pick up he met us at the train station and the handover was smooth and quick. At the end if the trip it was also a very smooth transition and Cemil kindly drove us back to the airport. The van was great - very easy to drive and everything worked perfectly. All tolls and insurance were covered. We were very happy with the motorhome and would highly recommend renting from Cemil.

We had a great experience hiring this motorhome. Everything went smoothly and we had absolutely zero issues throughout our trip. Fernando kept us informed about everything from the beginning and was very friendly and helpful. He was also very flexible with both the pickup and drop-off times, which made everything much easier. The location is perfect, especially if you're arriving via Prague Airport. We travelled all the way to Hungary and back to Poland, staying at several off-grid locations along the way. We had an amazing time at Lake Balaton in Hungary and also loved our stay at the Pod Opaleńcem campsite in Świeradów-Zdrój, Poland. We would definitely recommend this motorhome hire and would happily rent from Fernando again!
