Gloucestershire's Cotswold Way stretches 164 km from Chipping Campden to Bath, tracing a limestone escarpment that has shaped the county's character for centuries. The county sits at the meeting point of the Cotswolds, the Severn Vale, and the Forest of Dean, giving you an extraordinary range of landscapes to explore from a single base. From Gloucester Cathedral — whose cloisters doubled as Hogwarts corridors — to the elegant Regency terraces of Cheltenham, the distance is just 14 km, making it easy to combine culture and countryside in one trip. Head west and you reach the Forest of Dean, a 110-square-kilometre ancient woodland threaded with cycling trails and sculpture walks. The Severn Estuary, famous for its tidal bore, adds a dramatic natural spectacle, while market towns like Stow-on-the-Wold, Tewkesbury, and Cirencester reward slow exploration with independent shops and centuries-old pubs. Roads through the Cotswolds roll gently between honey-coloured villages, well suited to both campervans and larger motorhomes, though narrower lanes around the Forest of Dean favour smaller vehicles. Cheltenham to Stow-on-the-Wold is roughly 26 km, a perfect afternoon drive with stops along the way. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from local owners across Gloucestershire, choosing from a range of vehicles that match your group size and travel style — a flexible, community-driven way to discover this remarkable county.
Gloucestershire comes alive from May to September, when long daylight hours let you make the most of the Cotswolds and Forest of Dean. The Cheltenham Literature Festival in October draws visitors from across the country, while the Cooper's Hill Cheese-Rolling near Brockworth each late May bank holiday is a uniquely Gloucestershire spectacle. Summer is the busiest period for campsites, so booking your campervan through Yescapa early gives you the widest choice and often better rates from local owners. Spring and autumn bring quieter roads and golden light across the limestone villages — ideal for a motorhome tour at a relaxed pace.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
Start in Cheltenham and wind through Broadway, Chipping Campden, and Stow-on-the-Wold over roughly 120 km. This Gloucestershire route suits campervans perfectly, with gentle hills and well-maintained roads connecting golden-stone villages. Stop at Broadway Tower for panoramic views.
A 95 km circuit from Gloucester through Coleford, Symonds Yat, and Cinderford, deep into the Forest of Dean. Gloucestershire's ancient woodland offers sculpture trails and mountain biking. Smaller campervans work best on the narrower forest roads. Campsites are plentiful near Coleford.
Follow the Severn Estuary south from Tewkesbury through Gloucester, then cross into the Wye Valley via Monmouth, returning through the Forest of Dean. This 300 km Gloucestershire route takes in Tintern Abbey and the tidal bore. Motorhomes have good access on the main roads throughout.
Drive the full length of the Cotswolds from Chipping Campden to Tetbury, covering around 350 km with detours to Bourton-on-the-Water, Bibury, and Cirencester. This Gloucestershire journey showcases the region's finest market towns. Plenty of campervan-friendly stopovers along the route.
A comprehensive 550 km loop linking Cheltenham, Tewkesbury, the Forest of Dean, Stroud, and the southern Cotswolds. You pass through Painswick, Nailsworth, and Dursley, with time to explore each area. Ideal for a motorhome holiday with varied landscapes and well-spaced campsites across Gloucestershire.
Begin in Gloucester and loop through Gloucestershire's highlights before extending to Stratford-upon-Avon and the Malvern Hills, covering around 600 km. Take in Sudeley Castle, Slimbridge Wetland Centre, and Berkeley Castle. A spacious motorhome gives you comfort on this longer adventure with diverse stops.

Gloucestershire offers a fine spread of campsites, from woodland clearings in the Forest of Dean to open meadows on the Cotswold escarpment. Many sites provide electric hook-ups, hardstanding pitches, and modern shower blocks suited to both campervans and motorhomes. Whether you prefer a quiet rural setting near Cirencester or a family-friendly park close to Cheltenham, you will find well-maintained facilities across the county.
Gloucestershire is well connected by the M5 motorway, which runs north–south through the county, and the A417, linking Gloucester to Cirencester. Motorways in England are toll-free, though larger motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes must observe a speed limit of 60 mph on motorways and 50 mph on single carriageways. Many Cotswold roads are single-track with passing places, so plan your route if you are driving a wider vehicle. The M5 has regular service stations with facilities suitable for campervans and motorhomes, including waste disposal at some stops. Watch for height restrictions on older bridges in the Forest of Dean area.
Esperienza positiva
Beyond happy with the whole experience. The motorhome was very comfy and had everything we needed for our little girls camping trip. More importantly the owners were extremely friendly and beyond helpful at all times with the vehicle, the routes, the airport pickups and dropp offs and many many more things! All and all very happy with this experience!
The experience was seemles from start to finish. Handover was very straightforward with all the major information required exchanged. Fabian the owner remained available during the trip for any issues that may arise. The vehicle was as advertised and in very good condition. Very nice camping caravan, equipped with everything that you could need. The return process was straightforward when returning vehicle. Also my car was kept securley stored at the location for arrival and drop off. Overall very good experience and i would highly recommend and use again in the future.
We really enjoyed our travels around Brittany in Clarisse's camper van. It was comfortable and easy to drive and had everything we needed for our holiday. Clarisse explained everything clearly to us before we set off.
