Swansea sits at the gateway to the Gower Peninsula, the first area in the United Kingdom to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty back in 1956. From the city centre, you can reach the golden sands of Rhossili Bay in just 25 km, while the Brecon Beacons National Park lies roughly 50 km to the north-east. The waterfront itself has been transformed around the SA1 development and the National Waterfront Museum, which traces 300 years of Welsh industry and innovation. Head west along the coast and you will find Three Cliffs Bay, Worms Head tidal island, and the salt marshes of the Llanrhidian estuary — all within easy driving distance. Mumbles, the seaside village at the southern tip of Swansea Bay, is famous for its Victorian pier and independent ice-cream parlours. Inland, the Afan Forest Park offers mountain-biking trails through former coal-mining valleys, and the Swansea Valley leads up to the Dan-yr-Ogof showcaves. Travelling by campervan gives you the flexibility to follow the coast one day and explore the valleys the next, without worrying about hotel check-in times. A motorhome is ideal for families who want extra living space on longer trips through the region. With Yescapa, you hire directly from local owners in and around Swansea, which means a wider choice of vehicles and helpful tips from people who know these roads best.
May to September is the prime window for a campervan trip around Swansea, when coastal paths are at their best and campsites across the Gower are fully open. The Mumbles Oyster Festival in late September celebrates local seafood and marks a lively end to the season. The Swansea International Festival each October brings music and performance to the city. Booking through Yescapa during spring or early autumn often means better hire rates from local owners, as demand is lighter than in the school-holiday peak of July and August. Whenever you visit, Swansea's mild maritime climate keeps conditions comfortable for touring.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
This 80 km loop takes you from Swansea through Mumbles and along the Gower coast to Rhossili Bay before returning via Llanrhidian. Allow 3–5 days to enjoy the beaches and cliff walks. Compact campervans handle the narrow lanes with ease.
Cover 120 km from Swansea north-west through Llandeilo and the Tywi Valley, stopping at Carreg Cennen Castle and the National Botanic Garden of Wales. Over 3–6 days you can explore market towns and rolling farmland at a relaxed pace.
Follow 280 km from Swansea west to Tenby, Pembroke, and St Davids along the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. In 5–8 days you can visit harbour villages and dramatic headlands. Motorhomes are welcome at well-equipped coastal campsites along the route.
This 350 km circuit heads north from Swansea to Pen y Fan, through Hay-on-Wye and the Black Mountains, returning via the Swansea Valley. Allow 5–8 days to hike, stargaze in the Dark Sky Reserve, and enjoy riverside campsites.
A 500 km route linking Swansea, Cardiff, the Wye Valley, and the Brecon Beacons before looping back west. Over 7–11 days you can mix city culture with mountain scenery. Campervan-friendly aires and campsites are well spaced along the way.
Covering 650 km, this route follows the Wales Coast Path from Swansea up through Aberystwyth to Caernarfon and Snowdonia. Plan 10–15 days to take in castles, beaches, and mountain passes. A motorhome gives you the comfort needed for this longer adventure.

The Swansea area offers a fine mix of coastal and countryside campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. Along the Gower Peninsula you will find pitches with sea views and direct beach access, while inland sites near the Swansea Valley provide quieter, greener surroundings. Most sites offer electric hook-ups, modern shower blocks, and waste-disposal points, so you can stay self-sufficient throughout your trip around Swansea.
Wales has no motorway tolls, so you can travel freely on the M4 that connects Swansea to Cardiff and beyond. The national speed limit for motorhomes over 3.05 tonnes is 60 mph on dual carriageways and 50 mph on single carriageways. The A483 and A4067 lead north into the Brecon Beacons, with some steep gradients and narrow stretches — take your time and use passing places where signed. Fuel stations are plentiful along the M4 corridor but become less frequent on rural Gower roads, so top up before heading west.
The hire experience was excellent throughout. The owners were very friendly, accommodating and easy to deal with. We had such a good trip. The van is really well looked after and a pleasure to drive. The owners helped with anything we were unsure of and even gave us tips on where to eat and park up. We would definitely hire through these owners again.
We hired Trina for 5 nights earlier this July. My girlfriend and I had a fantastic time on the island. Jandro was incredibly helpful, always on hand before and during the trip to answer any questions which really helped us navigate the island and enjoy our trip. The vehicle was fantastic, an incredible experience to drive. All the amenities were brilliant as well. I would highly recommend using Jandro and one of his vans for a fantastic Mallorca experience!
Communication with the owner was great, van was immaculate, heaps of choice, love the peer to peer concept. Easy to add an extra driver and ID checks were very thorough but straightforward. Changing dates wasn't so easy, the owner was great, but the process at the back end took some manual effort. Teething problems, not a big deal. Main area that needs improving (for me anyway) is the deposit. There was a single line in a table stating Deposit: cash or transfer, that I hadn't seen. The owner asked for the cash or a transfer when we were at the car, which he explained was normal process, but Yescapa could have explained beforehand. I transferred €2000 directly to the owner, which didn't feel comfortable. I had expected this would all be done via Yescapa. I ended up losing €45 in exchange rate variations + fees as well, the owner's bank had challenges which meant it to 5 days to get a lot of cash back. It was lucky we had that amount at hand. I would use Yescapa again. I hope they can tidy up and improve the processes though.
Very easy and open person… all went well , on time and with all the agremants.
Incredible time spent across the south of France with an incredible van! From beach, lakes, mountains and fields, it got me places I didn’t even pre conceive. Can’t speak more highly of my over all experience from van collection at train station to drop off. Drives smoother than my Suzuki jimny and can confirm very 6ft 4 friendly.
We had an amazing experience hiring Eli's campervan! It was perfect for our family of four – myself, my partner, and our two young daughters. The van was spotless, comfortable, and had everything we needed for our trip. It was easy to drive, well-equipped, and made exploring the malaga so much more enjoyable. The owners were friendly, helpful, and made the whole rental process smooth from start to finish. We made some unforgettable family memories and wouldn't hesitate to rent this campervan again. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a fun, comfortable, and hassle-free adventure in Spain. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
