What you need to know about roads and motorways in Newport

Newport benefits from excellent access via the M4 motorway, which runs directly through the city and connects Cardiff to the west with Bristol and London to the east. The M4 is toll-free through Wales following the removal of Severn Bridge tolls in 2018. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.05 tonnes are 60 mph on motorways and 50 mph on single carriageway roads. The nearby A449 heads north towards Monmouth and the A48 provides a useful alternative east–west route.
