Denbighshire stretches from the Irish Sea coast at Rhyl to the moorland ridges of the Clwydian Range, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty whose highest point, Moel Famau at 555 metres, offers panoramic views across six counties. The county packs remarkable variety into a compact area — the medieval walled town of Denbigh sits just 32 km from the Victorian seaside resort of Rhyl, while the market town of Ruthin lies only 19 km south-east of Denbigh along the fertile Vale of Clwyd. History is woven into the landscape: Denbigh Castle, built by Edward I in 1282, crowns a limestone outcrop above the town, and the ruins of Valle Crucis Abbey near Llangollen date back to 1201. Along the coast, Prestatyn marks the northern end of the Offa's Dyke Path, a 285-km national trail following the ancient border between England and Wales. Inland, the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, a UNESCO World Heritage Site just beyond the county's southern edge, draws visitors exploring the Dee Valley by campervan. Narrow lanes wind through rolling farmland, and quieter B-roads connect villages where Welsh is still spoken daily. Whether you want coastal cycling, hill walking, or castle-hopping, Denbighshire rewards those who take their time. With Yescapa, you can hire a motorhome or campervan directly from local owners across North Wales, giving you the flexibility to explore at your own pace without the overhead of a large hire company.
May to September is the prime window for a campervan trip through Denbighshire, when daylight stretches past nine in the evening and the Clwydian Range is at its greenest. The Denbigh Show, held each August, is one of North Wales's largest agricultural events and well worth timing your visit around. In June, Ruthin Festival fills the town with live music and arts. Booking through Yescapa during spring or early autumn often means better availability and more competitive hire prices from local owners, with campsites along the coast and in the Vale of Clwyd generally quieter outside the school holidays. Even October brings its own appeal, as the Clwydian hills turn amber and walking trails are peaceful.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
Starting in Ruthin, this 85 km loop follows lanes beneath the Clwydian Range, passing Moel Famau country park and the hilltop village of Llanbedr Dyffryn Clwyd. Ideal for a compact campervan, with small campsites dotted along the vale.
Cover 110 km from Prestatyn to Rhyl and inland to Denbigh Castle, looping through Rhuddlan and its 13th-century castle. Flat coastal roads suit any motorhome, and seafront aires offer overnight parking near the beach.
This 200 km route links Denbighshire's market towns — Ruthin, Denbigh, and St Asaph — before heading south through Corwen and the Dee Valley. Campervan-friendly campsites sit near Llyn Brenig reservoir, a great spot for fishing and stargazing.
A 320 km circuit from Rhyl taking in Conwy, Caernarfon, and Harlech castles before returning via Bala and Corwen into Denbighshire. Well-surfaced A-roads throughout make this route comfortable in a larger motorhome.
Spanning 400 km, this route heads west from Denbighshire into Snowdonia, through Betws-y-Coed and Beddgelert, then along the Llŷn Peninsula coast. Return via Dolgellau and the Dee Valley. Mix of campsites and certified locations for campervans.
At 550 km, this extended tour covers Denbighshire, Anglesey, the Snowdonia interior, and the Cambrian coast down to Aberystwyth. Highlights include the Menai Strait crossing and Portmeirion village. Motorhome service points are well spaced along the route.

Denbighshire offers a good spread of campsites, from coastal parks with sea views near Rhyl and Prestatyn to quieter rural pitches in the Vale of Clwyd and the Clwydian hills. Many sites provide electric hook-ups, hardstanding pitches, and dedicated motorhome service points alongside standard facilities such as showers, toilets, and washing-up areas. Several farms across the county also welcome campervans on certified locations, giving you a more peaceful countryside experience.
Denbighshire is served by the A55 expressway, which runs along the North Wales coast and connects to the English motorway network — no tolls apply on this stretch. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are 50 mph on single carriageways and 60 mph on dual carriageways. Inland roads through the Vale of Clwyd and the Clwydian Range are mostly single-carriageway A- and B-roads, some with passing places on steeper sections. Larger vehicles should take care on narrow lanes around Llangollen and the Horseshoe Pass, where gradients reach 1 in 5. Lay-bys and rest areas are well spaced along the A55 corridor.
Communication was easy, the vehicle is in good condition and looks like the shared photos. Has the amenities needed and comfy bedding. Having the solar charger is a plus given we didn't drive much, so there was no need for recharging with electricity.
We rented Jorge’s lovely caravan for four days as a mother and daughter trip to celebrate a 55th birthday. It was our first caravan experience, and we honestly loved it! Jorge offers several convenient extras for a small fee, including airport transfers, cleaning. Despite our late-night flight from London, he met us on arrival, gave us a thorough tour of the caravan, and even suggested we record it on our phones, which proved very helpful. A bottle of cold water waiting in the fridge was such a thoughtful touch. After arriving at 1 am in 34°C heat with no open shops nearby, it was a huge relief. We had a small issue with the fridge and also opening the water refill cap, but Jorge happily helped us over a video call. We never felt abandoned - he was always kind, responsive, and professional. The caravan is practical, comfortable, and well-equipped with everything we needed. Our deposit was also returned promptly. Thank you, Jorge, for making our first caravan holiday such a great experience and sorry about the hard to reach sauce spillage again!
This was our first experience hiring a van and it was very good. Patrick was super helpful and friendly. We experienced some problems with the battery but Patrick was very responsive and helpful trying to solve this. The van has everything you need, although a cradle for your phone would be useful if using for directions as there is no satnav. The bed was surprisingly spacious and very comfy- we slept very well considering the 40 degree heat wave! We would recommend this van to you. Thank you Patrick!
First time ever in a camper van abroad, have to say Diego was a great guy, helpful before our visit, during and made sure everything was smooth sailing/camping, thanks for ramming my sons first camping trip a succcess! R
