Bridgend sits at the confluence of three rivers — the Ogmore, Garw, and Llynfi — making it one of the few towns in Wales shaped so distinctly by its waterways. From the ruins of Ogmore Castle, a 12th-century Norman fortification on the banks of the River Ewenny, to the sweeping dunes of Merthyr Mawr Warren, one of the largest sand dune systems in Europe, this corner of South Wales packs remarkable variety into a compact area. The heritage town of Porthcawl lies just 10 km to the south-west, offering a traditional seaside promenade and the annual Elvis Festival each September. Head 13 km north and you reach the Garw Valley, where former mining communities sit beneath forested hillsides ideal for walking and cycling. Bryngarw Country Park provides a peaceful stop with riverside trails and formal gardens, while the medieval village of Merthyr Mawr, with its thatched cottages, feels like a step back in time. Coastal paths connect Porthcawl to Rest Bay and Sker Beach, giving you easy access to some of the best surfing spots in South Wales. The roads here are well-suited to both campervans and motorhomes, with a mix of A-roads linking valleys and coast. Through Yescapa, you can hire directly from local owners across the Bridgend area, choosing from a range of vehicles that suit your group size and travel style — a flexible, community-driven way to explore this rewarding part of Wales.
Bridgend is enjoyable from spring through to autumn. May and June bring wildflowers to Merthyr Mawr Warren and comfortable temperatures for coastal walks. The Porthcawl Elvis Festival in late September draws thousands and adds a lively atmosphere to the area. Summer months see campsites at their busiest, so booking your campervan through Yescapa ahead of time helps you secure the best choice and competitive peer-to-peer pricing. Autumn rewards you with quieter trails through the Garw and Llynfi valleys, and Bridgend's sheltered position means conditions stay mild well into October.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
Starting in Bridgend, follow the coast through Porthcawl and along the Glamorgan Heritage Coast to Dunraven Bay. At 45 km, this short loop suits a campervan perfectly, with stops at Ogmore-by-Sea and Nash Point lighthouse. Plenty of parking along the route.
Drive north from Bridgend into the Garw, Ogmore, and Llynfi valleys over 80 km. Visit Bryngarw Country Park and the Parc Slip Nature Reserve before climbing to Blaengarw. Quiet roads and scenic picnic spots make this ideal for motorhome travellers.
Head west from Bridgend through Porthcawl to the Gower Peninsula, then loop back via Swansea Bay. This 190 km route takes in Rhossili Beach, Mumbles, and Aberavon. Campervan-friendly campsites are well spaced along the coast for overnight stops.
A 300 km circuit from Bridgend visiting Caerphilly Castle, Brecon Beacons National Park, and Carreg Cennen Castle before returning via the Vale of Glamorgan. Mix of A-roads and country lanes with motorhome services available in Brecon and Llandeilo.
From Bridgend, travel 420 km through Carmarthenshire to Pembrokeshire, taking in Tenby, St Davids, and the Preseli Hills. Return along Cardigan Bay through New Quay. A campervan gives you the flexibility to linger at quieter beaches along the way.
This 650 km route circles much of Wales from Bridgend. Head north through the Brecon Beacons to Snowdonia, across to Anglesey, then south along Cardigan Bay and back via Pembrokeshire. Motorhome service points are found in Dolgellau, Caernarfon, and Haverfordwest.

Bridgend and its surroundings offer a good spread of campsites, from coastal pitches near Porthcawl to quieter rural sites in the valleys. Many provide electric hook-ups, hardstanding pitches, and modern shower blocks suitable for both campervans and motorhomes. Several sites sit within easy reach of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, giving you a base for walks and beach days without long drives.
Bridgend benefits from excellent road links. The M4 motorway runs directly through the county borough, connecting you to Cardiff (30 km east) and Swansea (35 km west) with no tolls on this stretch. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.05 tonnes are 60 mph on dual carriageways and 50 mph on single carriageways. The A473 and A4061 provide access into the valleys, though these narrower roads suit campervans better than larger motorhomes. Rest areas and services are available at Junction 35 and Junction 36 of the M4.
Communication was easy, the vehicle is in good condition and looks like the shared photos. Has the amenities needed and comfy bedding. Having the solar charger is a plus given we didn't drive much, so there was no need for recharging with electricity.
We rented Jorge’s lovely caravan for four days as a mother and daughter trip to celebrate a 55th birthday. It was our first caravan experience, and we honestly loved it! Jorge offers several convenient extras for a small fee, including airport transfers, cleaning. Despite our late-night flight from London, he met us on arrival, gave us a thorough tour of the caravan, and even suggested we record it on our phones, which proved very helpful. A bottle of cold water waiting in the fridge was such a thoughtful touch. After arriving at 1 am in 34°C heat with no open shops nearby, it was a huge relief. We had a small issue with the fridge and also opening the water refill cap, but Jorge happily helped us over a video call. We never felt abandoned - he was always kind, responsive, and professional. The caravan is practical, comfortable, and well-equipped with everything we needed. Our deposit was also returned promptly. Thank you, Jorge, for making our first caravan holiday such a great experience and sorry about the hard to reach sauce spillage again!
This was our first experience hiring a van and it was very good. Patrick was super helpful and friendly. We experienced some problems with the battery but Patrick was very responsive and helpful trying to solve this. The van has everything you need, although a cradle for your phone would be useful if using for directions as there is no satnav. The bed was surprisingly spacious and very comfy- we slept very well considering the 40 degree heat wave! We would recommend this van to you. Thank you Patrick!
First time ever in a camper van abroad, have to say Diego was a great guy, helpful before our visit, during and made sure everything was smooth sailing/camping, thanks for ramming my sons first camping trip a succcess! R
