Why hire a campervan or motorhome in Rhondda Cynon Taf

Rhondda Cynon Taf — a region worth exploring

Rhondda Cynon Taf stretches across 424 square kilometres of the South Wales Valleys, where the Rhondda Fawr and Rhondda Fach rivers carved two of the most recognisable valley corridors in Wales. The region's industrial past is brought to life at the Rhondda Heritage Park in Trehafod, a former colliery turned interactive museum, while the Royal Mint Experience in Llantrisant offers a fascinating look at over 1,100 years of coin-making history. From the market town of Pontypridd — birthplace of the Welsh national anthem — to the forested trails of Dare Valley Country Park near Aberdare, the landscape shifts between wooded hillsides, open moorland, and tight-knit valley communities. Pontypridd to Aberdare is roughly 13 km through the Cynon Valley, and from Aberdare to the Brecon Beacons National Park boundary it is only about 16 km, making the region a superb base for exploring wider South Wales. The valleys are connected by A-roads that wind along riversides, well suited to campervans and smaller motorhomes. Narrow lanes climb to upland viewpoints above the treeline, rewarding those who take their time. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from local owners across South Wales, choosing from a range of vehicles that match both the valley roads and your travel plans. Rhondda Cynon Taf rewards curiosity — every turning reveals another chapel, another hillside, another story.

Best time to visit

May to September is the prime window for a campervan trip through Rhondda Cynon Taf, when the valleys are green and daylight stretches well past eight in the evening. The Pontypridd Big Weekend, usually held in July, fills Ynysangharad War Memorial Park with live music and family entertainment. Autumn brings the Rhondda Tunnel Society's heritage events, celebrating the area's mining legacy. With Yescapa, you can often find better hire rates outside the school holiday peak in August, and spring bookings let you enjoy quieter roads and blooming hillsides across Rhondda Cynon Taf.

I had the most wonderful trip in Eve’s van. It has everything you need, a great sized fridge, a large comfy bed, cooking equipment, electrics to be off grid, a great shower & toilet. The van ran very smoothly and was a perfect size even driving through the towns was no problem at all. They were very accommodating, helping me with local tip and recommendations. I’d 100% recommend this van to anyone thinking of taking a road trip, you won’t regret it :)

Inigio and his lovely girlfriend looked after Dolly for one week here in the Algarve area. They brought her back clean and in really good shape. Before and during the rental period we had a very good dialogue. I can highly reccomend them to lend your car. :-)

Fantastic experience. Raul really went above and beyond to help us out and was always responsive with any queries we had. The van was in excellent condition, had everything we needed, and was ideal for our trip into the Pyrenees, plus heading south for the solar eclipse. Would highly recommend.
