Flintshire's 73-mile stretch of the Wales Coast Path traces the Dee Estuary from Connah's Quay to Point of Ayr, offering unbroken views across to the Wirral Peninsula and some of the finest birdwatching in North Wales. This compact county packs in a remarkable range of experiences, from the atmospheric ruins of Flint Castle — the first of Edward I's Iron Ring fortresses, begun in 1277 — to the limestone gorge at Loggerheads Country Park in the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The market town of Mold sits just 19 km from Chester and 40 km from Snowdonia National Park, making Flintshire an ideal base for exploring both the English border country and the Welsh mountains. Head to Holywell to see St Winefride's Well, a pilgrimage site continuously visited for over 1,300 years, or wander the grounds of Ewloe Castle, tucked away in dense woodland above the Wepre Brook. The terrain is gentle enough for any vehicle — rolling farmland, quiet lanes, and well-maintained A-roads connect the main towns without the tight hairpins you might encounter further west. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners across North Wales, choosing from a wide variety of vehicles to suit your group. Whether you want a compact campervan for a weekend along the estuary or a larger motorhome for a longer Welsh adventure, peer-to-peer hire means competitive prices and personal recommendations from people who know these roads well.
May to September is the prime window for a campervan trip through Flintshire, when long daylight hours let you make the most of the coast path and country parks. The Mold Food and Drink Festival, held each September, is one of the largest free food festivals in Wales and well worth timing your visit around. Winter brings thousands of wading birds to the Dee Estuary — a draw for wildlife enthusiasts happy to travel in the quieter months. Book through Yescapa outside peak summer and you can often find lower hire rates from local owners, giving you more flexibility to explore Flintshire at your own pace.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
Follow the Flintshire coastline from Flint Castle to Point of Ayr Lighthouse, around 95 km with detours. Stop at Greenfield Valley Heritage Park and Bagillt marshes for birdwatching. Quiet roads suit any campervan, with several parking spots overlooking the estuary.
A 120 km loop from Mold through Loggerheads Country Park, over the Clwydian Range to Ruthin, and back via Denbigh. Climb Moel Famau for panoramic views. The route suits a compact campervan, with campsites dotted along the valley floors.
Start in Flintshire at Ewloe Castle and travel 280 km west through Conwy, Caernarfon, and Harlech, linking four UNESCO-listed fortresses. Motorhome-friendly parking is available at each site. Return along the A55 for a complete loop of North Wales heritage.
Head south from Flintshire through Wrexham and Llangollen, crossing into the Shropshire Hills before looping back via Chester — around 350 km. Visit the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Chirk Castle. Roads are motorhome-friendly with plenty of overnight options.
A 480 km route from Flintshire along the North Wales coast to Anglesey, then south through Snowdonia to Dolgellau and back inland. Take in Conwy, Betws-y-Coed, and Bala Lake. Mix of dual carriageways and mountain roads — ideal in a well-equipped motorhome.
Begin in Flintshire and travel the full length of Wales — 650 km through Snowdonia, Aberystwyth, the Pembrokeshire coast, and the Brecon Beacons before returning north. A campervan gives you freedom to stop at coastal and rural campsites across every region of Wales.

Flintshire and the surrounding area offer a good spread of campsites, from coastal pitches along the Dee Estuary to rural spots near the Clwydian Range. Many sites provide electric hook-ups, hardstanding pitches, and modern shower blocks suitable for both campervans and motorhomes. Several are open year-round, so you can plan a trip in any season with confidence.
Flintshire is well connected by the A55 North Wales Expressway, which runs east–west through the county and links to the M56 towards Manchester. The A55 is toll-free, though the Mersey Gateway crossing further east does carry a charge. Speed limits for motorhomes under 3,500 kg match standard car limits, but vehicles over 3,500 kg are restricted to 50 mph on single carriageways and 60 mph on dual carriageways. The A55 has regular service areas with parking suitable for larger vehicles. Local roads through the Clwydian Range are mostly single carriageway with passing places, so take your time and enjoy the scenery.
Communication with the owner was great, van was immaculate, heaps of choice, love the peer to peer concept. Easy to add an extra driver and ID checks were very thorough but straightforward. Changing dates wasn't so easy, the owner was great, but the process at the back end took some manual effort. Teething problems, not a big deal. Main area that needs improving (for me anyway) is the deposit. There was a single line in a table stating Deposit: cash or transfer, that I hadn't seen. The owner asked for the cash or a transfer when we were at the car, which he explained was normal process, but Yescapa could have explained beforehand. I transferred €2000 directly to the owner, which didn't feel comfortable. I had expected this would all be done via Yescapa. I ended up losing €45 in exchange rate variations + fees as well, the owner's bank had challenges which meant it to 5 days to get a lot of cash back. It was lucky we had that amount at hand. I would use Yescapa again. I hope they can tidy up and improve the processes though.
Very easy and open person… all went well , on time and with all the agremants.
Incredible time spent across the south of France with an incredible van! From beach, lakes, mountains and fields, it got me places I didn’t even pre conceive. Can’t speak more highly of my over all experience from van collection at train station to drop off. Drives smoother than my Suzuki jimny and can confirm very 6ft 4 friendly.
We had an amazing experience hiring Eli's campervan! It was perfect for our family of four – myself, my partner, and our two young daughters. The van was spotless, comfortable, and had everything we needed for our trip. It was easy to drive, well-equipped, and made exploring the malaga so much more enjoyable. The owners were friendly, helpful, and made the whole rental process smooth from start to finish. We made some unforgettable family memories and wouldn't hesitate to rent this campervan again. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a fun, comfortable, and hassle-free adventure in Spain. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We had a great experience. All went smoothly and the camper van was perfect. Mike was very accommodating and communicative throughout and we would recommend highly.
Communication was easy, the vehicle is in good condition and looks like the shared photos. Has the amenities needed and comfy bedding. Having the solar charger is a plus given we didn't drive much, so there was no need for recharging with electricity.
