Why hire a campervan or motorhome in Carmarthenshire

Carmarthenshire — a region worth exploring

Carmarthenshire stretches across 2,395 square kilometres of south-west Wales, making it the largest county in the country by area. From the sweeping sands of Cefn Sidan — one of the longest beaches in Wales at over 12 kilometres — to the brooding ruins of Carreg Cennen Castle perched on a limestone cliff in the Brecon Beacons foothills, the county rewards slow, exploratory travel. The National Botanic Garden of Wales near Llanarthne houses the world's largest single-span glasshouse, while the market town of Carmarthen, often cited as the oldest town in Wales, sits roughly 45 kilometres west of Swansea and 95 kilometres from Pembrokeshire's St Davids. Carmarthenshire's roads wind through the lush Tywi Valley, past the Dinefwr estate and its medieval deer park, and up into the Black Mountain range where open moorland meets quiet single-track lanes. Coastal routes along Carmarthen Bay are well suited to campervans, while the broader inland roads through the Tywi Valley comfortably accommodate larger motorhomes. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from local owners across Carmarthenshire and the wider south-west Wales area, choosing from a range of vehicles that match both your group size and the type of terrain you plan to explore.

Best time to visit

May to September is the prime window for a campervan trip through Carmarthenshire, when daylight stretches past nine in the evening and coastal campsites along Carmarthen Bay are fully open. The Carmarthen River Festival in August brings live music and food stalls to the county town, while the Royal Welsh Show in nearby Builth Wells each July draws visitors from across the region. Spring and early autumn are quieter, with lower hire prices available through Yescapa's peer-to-peer platform and plenty of space at inland sites in the Tywi Valley. Carmarthenshire's mild, maritime climate keeps conditions comfortable well into October.

We had an amazing trip! Rafaela and Carina were so kind, and we couldn’t recommend their van enough 🤩🙏🏼 The van had everything we needed for a proper “van life” experience, and you can also stay at campsites whenever you want!

We hired a motorhome from Cemil for a week to travel around Switzerland. We also visited France, Germany and Liechtenstein. Before the trip Cemil was helpful and responded to questions promptly. On the day of pick up he met us at the train station and the handover was smooth and quick. At the end if the trip it was also a very smooth transition and Cemil kindly drove us back to the airport. The van was great - very easy to drive and everything worked perfectly. All tolls and insurance were covered. We were very happy with the motorhome and would highly recommend renting from Cemil.

We had a great experience hiring this motorhome. Everything went smoothly and we had absolutely zero issues throughout our trip. Fernando kept us informed about everything from the beginning and was very friendly and helpful. He was also very flexible with both the pickup and drop-off times, which made everything much easier. The location is perfect, especially if you're arriving via Prague Airport. We travelled all the way to Hungary and back to Poland, staying at several off-grid locations along the way. We had an amazing time at Lake Balaton in Hungary and also loved our stay at the Pod Opaleńcem campsite in Świeradów-Zdrój, Poland. We would definitely recommend this motorhome hire and would happily rent from Fernando again!
