Why choose Warrington for your road trip

Warrington — a city worth exploring

Warrington sits at the crossing point of the River Mersey and the Manchester Ship Canal, a position that made it one of the first towns in England to be connected by rail in 1831. Today, the town blends industrial heritage with green spaces and easy access to some of the north-west's finest scenery. Walton Hall and Gardens, a 32-acre estate with a heritage centre, children's zoo and pitch-and-putt course, is a favourite with families. The Warrington Museum & Art Gallery, one of the oldest municipal museums in the country, houses collections spanning natural history, fine art and local archaeology. For a stroll along the water, the Sankey Canal — widely regarded as Britain's first modern canal — runs through the town and offers peaceful towpath walks. Victoria Park provides a leafy retreat right in the centre, while the nearby Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden is a quiet spot well worth a visit. Liverpool lies just 30 km to the west, and the Peak District National Park is roughly 65 km to the east, making Warrington a superb base for exploring in every direction. The road network here is excellent, with the M6, M62 and M56 all within easy reach, so navigating a motorhome or campervan through the region is straightforward. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from a local owner, giving you the flexibility to pick up nearby and set off on your own schedule.

Best time to visit

Warrington comes alive in summer, when events such as the Warrington Walking Festival in June encourage you to explore the surrounding countryside on foot. The town's proximity to the coast and the hills means you can enjoy long daylight hours from a campervan base without battling for space. Spring and autumn are ideal if you prefer quieter roads and campsites, and hiring through Yescapa's peer-to-peer platform often means more competitive pricing outside peak months. Winter brings festive markets and cosy pub culture to Warrington, so there really is no wrong time to visit. Book ahead for July and August to secure the best choice of motorhome or campervan.

We rented the van for almost 3 weeks and we had a lovely time exploring Spain. The van has everything we needed and working properly. It’s spacious and comfortable for two to sleep. We were a bit worried about the heatwave the country was having and Jeremie managed to buy a double fan for us to sleep, which we highly appreciated. He is very friendly and good with communicating. The van runs smoothly, we just had a message on the screen to top up the oil (which was easy enough to stop at the petrol station and buy one - with Jeremie instructions we were able to do it). We really recommend renting his van for your adventure. ☺️

It was a genuine pleasure travelling in Álvaro’s campervan. Not only was it well maintained and fully equipped, but Álvaro also proved to be an exceptional host—friendly, responsive, and always willing to help. His support played a key role in ensuring that the trip went as smoothly as possible. I would recommend him without hesitation and sincerely hope to have the opportunity to repeat the experience. Thank you very much for everything!
