Morecambe's Art Deco Midland Hotel, designed by Oliver Hill and opened in 1933, remains one of the finest examples of streamline moderne architecture in Britain. This Lancashire seaside town sits on the curve of Morecambe Bay, offering uninterrupted views across to the Lake District fells. You can stroll along the Stone Jetty, pay your respects at the Eric Morecambe Statue on the promenade, or explore the recently restored Winter Gardens theatre, a Grade II listed building dating back to 1897. The RSPB Leighton Moss nature reserve lies just 11 km to the north-east, home to bitterns, marsh harriers and otters, while Lancaster — with its medieval castle and vibrant quayside — is only 5 km inland. Morecambe Bay itself is famous for its vast tidal flats, and the coastal roads here are well suited to larger vehicles, with wide promenades and generous laybys along the seafront. Whether you fancy a walk across the bay with an official guide or a fish-and-chip supper watching the sun set behind the Lakeland mountains, this is a destination that rewards a slower pace. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners in the area, giving you the freedom to explore at your own speed while keeping costs down through our peer-to-peer platform.
Morecambe comes alive between May and September, when the long daylight hours let you make the most of the bay views and seafront walks. The Morecambe Carnival, typically held in summer, brings parades and live entertainment to the promenade, while the Vintage by the Sea festival in early September celebrates mid-century design and music across the town. Campervan pitches along the Morecambe Bay coast are easiest to book in spring and early autumn, when you also benefit from quieter roads. Through Yescapa, you can often find better hire rates outside the peak school-holiday weeks, as local owners set their own prices year-round.
Morecambe is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Head 22 km north-east from Morecambe into the Arnside and Silverdale AONB. Walk the Arnside Knott trail for panoramic bay views, then visit Leighton Hall, a Gothic manor with birds-of-prey displays. Campervan parking is available at Arnside promenade, and the quiet lanes suit smaller vehicles well.
Drive 65 km east from Morecambe into the Forest of Bowland AONB. Stop at the Trough of Bowland for sweeping moorland scenery and visit Slaidburn village with its 13th-century inn. The roads are narrow in places, so a compact campervan is ideal. Beacon Fell Country Park offers good parking and picnic spots.
Cover 50 km north from Morecambe to reach Windermere, the Lake District's largest lake. Explore Bowness-on-Windermere's boat cruises and visit Blackwell, the Arts and Crafts house. Continue to Ambleside for fell walks. Motorhome-friendly parking is available at Braithwaite Fold, and the A590 offers a smooth approach.
Travel 105 km north from Morecambe to Keswick, gateway to Borrowdale and Derwentwater. Visit the Keswick Museum, hire a rowing boat on the lake, and walk the Catbells ridge. Continue into Borrowdale for dramatic valley scenery. Several campsites welcome campervans, and the A591 is well maintained for larger vehicles.
Head 90 km east from Morecambe into the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Explore Ingleton Waterfalls Trail, cross the Ribblehead Viaduct viewpoint, and wander through Hawes to visit the Wensleydale Creamery. The Dales roads are scenic but manageable, and many farms offer motorhome stopovers with basic hook-ups.
Drive 240 km north-east from Morecambe to reach Northumberland's coastline. Visit Bamburgh Castle, explore Holy Island at low tide, and walk the beaches at Alnmouth. The A1 and A697 are comfortable for larger vehicles. Campervan-friendly aires and campsites dot the coast, making overnight stops straightforward.

Morecambe and the surrounding Lancashire coast offer a good range of campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. You will find sites with full electric hook-ups, hardstanding pitches, and modern shower blocks within easy reach of the seafront. Several parks sit right on the bay, giving you sea views from your pitch, while others are tucked into the countryside just inland, ideal if you prefer a quieter setting.
Morecambe offers several parking areas suitable for larger vehicles along the seafront and in the town centre. Overnight parking in a campervan or motorhome on public roads is generally permitted unless signage states otherwise, but dedicated facilities make for a more comfortable stay. Always check height barriers before entering multi-storey car parks, as most are unsuitable for taller vehicles.
We had an amazing trip! Rafaela and Carina were so kind, and we couldn’t recommend their van enough 🤩🙏🏼 The van had everything we needed for a proper “van life” experience, and you can also stay at campsites whenever you want!
We hired a motorhome from Cemil for a week to travel around Switzerland. We also visited France, Germany and Liechtenstein. Before the trip Cemil was helpful and responded to questions promptly. On the day of pick up he met us at the train station and the handover was smooth and quick. At the end if the trip it was also a very smooth transition and Cemil kindly drove us back to the airport. The van was great - very easy to drive and everything worked perfectly. All tolls and insurance were covered. We were very happy with the motorhome and would highly recommend renting from Cemil.
We had a great experience hiring this motorhome. Everything went smoothly and we had absolutely zero issues throughout our trip. Fernando kept us informed about everything from the beginning and was very friendly and helpful. He was also very flexible with both the pickup and drop-off times, which made everything much easier. The location is perfect, especially if you're arriving via Prague Airport. We travelled all the way to Hungary and back to Poland, staying at several off-grid locations along the way. We had an amazing time at Lake Balaton in Hungary and also loved our stay at the Pod Opaleńcem campsite in Świeradów-Zdrój, Poland. We would definitely recommend this motorhome hire and would happily rent from Fernando again!
Had a great time renting Dario's van. The pick-up was smooth and we were off and driving very quickly. Would highly recommend!
We went for a 7 days trip with 2 of my friends. It was an amazing time. Camper was really great - in a good condition, clean, comfortable. We did 1000km without any problems. I can recommend this car and Alvaro as a very nice owner.
