Why hire a campervan or motorhome in Lancashire

Lancashire — a region worth exploring

Lancashire's Ribble Valley stretches across 200 square miles of rolling countryside, making it one of the most sparsely populated areas in northern England and a rewarding region to explore by road. From the seaside promenades of Blackpool and Morecambe to the wild expanses of the Forest of Bowland, Lancashire offers a remarkable range of landscapes within a compact county. The Lancaster Canal runs 41 miles from Preston to Tewitfield, providing a peaceful corridor for walkers and cyclists alongside your route. Pendle Hill rises to 557 metres and rewards those who climb it with sweeping views across to the Yorkshire Dales, while the historic city of Lancaster itself sits just 26 miles north of Preston, with its imposing castle and Georgian architecture. The coastline between Lytham St Annes and Fleetwood is well served by wide, campervan-friendly roads, and the inland routes through the Trough of Bowland are among the finest scenic drives in England. Whether you fancy fish and chips on the Blackpool seafront or a quiet evening parked up near Beacon Fell Country Park, Lancashire has the variety to fill a long weekend or a fortnight. With Yescapa, you can hire a motorhome or campervan directly from local owners across Lancashire, choosing from a range of vehicles to suit your group size and travel style. It is a practical, personal way to get on the road.

Best time to visit

Lancashire is enjoyable from spring right through to autumn. May and June bring long daylight hours and wildflower displays across the Forest of Bowland, ideal for campervan touring. The Lytham Festival in July draws music lovers to the Fylde Coast, while the Blackpool Illuminations run from September to early November, extending the season well beyond summer. Campsites across the county tend to be busiest in July and August, so booking ahead is worthwhile. Travelling in shoulder months through Yescapa often means more competitive hire prices from local owners, along with quieter roads and easier parking for your motorhome.

What you need to know about roads and motorways in Lancashire

Lancashire's motorway network is centred on the M6, which runs north–south through the county, and the M55, connecting Preston to Blackpool. Neither route charges tolls. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.05 tonnes are 60 mph on motorways and 50 mph on single carriageway roads. The A roads through the Trough of Bowland and across Pendle are narrower and winding in places, so allow extra time if you are driving a larger vehicle. Service stations along the M6 are well spaced, and many offer dedicated parking bays for motorhomes and campervans.
