Why choose Christchurch for your road trip

Christchurch — a city worth exploring

Christchurch's Priory Church dates back to 1094, making it one of the longest parish churches in England at over 95 metres. Sitting where the rivers Avon and Stour meet the sea, this Dorset town offers a rewarding mix of history, coastline and green spaces. You can explore Christchurch Castle ruins, a Norman-era site managed by English Heritage, before wandering through the Quomps, a riverside park ideal for a leisurely afternoon. The Red House Museum and Gardens showcases local history and Georgian architecture, while Highcliffe Castle, a Grade I listed mansion just 3 km east, overlooks the sea from its clifftop grounds. Mudeford Quay is a favourite spot for fresh seafood and views across to Hengistbury Head, where you can walk sandy trails above Christchurch Harbour. Bournemouth lies just 8 km to the west, and the New Forest National Park is roughly 16 km to the north-east, giving you easy access to forest trails and wild ponies. The flat coastal roads around Christchurch suit both campervans and larger motorhomes, with wide routes connecting the town to neighbouring beaches and harbours. Through Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from a local owner, which means personal tips on the best parking spots, scenic routes and places only residents know about.

Best time to visit

Christchurch comes alive from May to September, when the Christchurch Food Festival draws crowds each May with local producers and live cookery demos. In August, the town hosts the Christchurch Regatta, one of the oldest rowing events on the south coast. Summer is the busiest period, so booking your campervan through Yescapa early gives you the widest choice and competitive peer-to-peer pricing. Spring and autumn are quieter, with mild coastal weather that makes exploring Mudeford Quay and the harbour a pleasure without the crowds. Motorhome pitches at nearby sites are easier to secure outside peak months.

We had an amazing trip! Rafaela and Carina were so kind, and we couldn’t recommend their van enough 🤩🙏🏼 The van had everything we needed for a proper “van life” experience, and you can also stay at campsites whenever you want!

We hired a motorhome from Cemil for a week to travel around Switzerland. We also visited France, Germany and Liechtenstein. Before the trip Cemil was helpful and responded to questions promptly. On the day of pick up he met us at the train station and the handover was smooth and quick. At the end if the trip it was also a very smooth transition and Cemil kindly drove us back to the airport. The van was great - very easy to drive and everything worked perfectly. All tolls and insurance were covered. We were very happy with the motorhome and would highly recommend renting from Cemil.

We had a great experience hiring this motorhome. Everything went smoothly and we had absolutely zero issues throughout our trip. Fernando kept us informed about everything from the beginning and was very friendly and helpful. He was also very flexible with both the pickup and drop-off times, which made everything much easier. The location is perfect, especially if you're arriving via Prague Airport. We travelled all the way to Hungary and back to Poland, staying at several off-grid locations along the way. We had an amazing time at Lake Balaton in Hungary and also loved our stay at the Pod Opaleńcem campsite in Świeradów-Zdrój, Poland. We would definitely recommend this motorhome hire and would happily rent from Fernando again!
