Why choose St Albans for your road trip

St Albans — a city worth exploring

St Albans Cathedral, built partly with Roman bricks from the ancient city of Verulamium, holds the longest nave of any cathedral in England at over 84 metres. This Hertfordshire city blends centuries of history with a thriving modern character, making it a rewarding base for exploring by road. Verulamium Park and its Roman museum sit just south-west of the centre, while the Clock Tower on the High Street dates back to 1403 and offers panoramic views from its rooftop. The St Albans Museum + Gallery, housed in the old town hall, traces local life from Roman times to the present day. Keen walkers can follow the Ver Valley Walk along the River Ver, and the twice-weekly Charter Market — one of the oldest in England — fills St Peter's Street with local produce. London lies just 35 km to the south-east, and the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty begins roughly 15 km to the north-west, opening up gentle countryside roads ideal for a campervan adventure. The compact city centre is easy to navigate, though some lanes are narrow, so a motorhome driver benefits from knowing the best routes in and out. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from a local owner, which means personal tips on parking spots, scenic drives, and the quieter approaches that only residents know.

Best time to visit

St Albans is enjoyable year-round, with each season offering something distinct. The St Albans Beer Festival in late September draws real-ale enthusiasts from across the region, while the annual Alban Pilgrimage in June fills the streets with colour and pageantry around the cathedral. Summer is the busiest period, so booking your campervan through Yescapa early lets you lock in competitive peer-to-peer prices before demand peaks. Spring and autumn bring quieter roads and comfortable driving conditions around Hertfordshire, and the Charter Market runs every Wednesday and Saturday regardless of season.

Everything went smooth during the whole pick up and return process. The van has seen some life but everything was clean and in great working condition + the price was very competitive when comparing to anything else available at the time. Very enjoyable trip with the van, highly recommended

I had the most wonderful trip in Eve’s van. It has everything you need, a great sized fridge, a large comfy bed, cooking equipment, electrics to be off grid, a great shower & toilet. The van ran very smoothly and was a perfect size even driving through the towns was no problem at all. They were very accommodating, helping me with local tip and recommendations. I’d 100% recommend this van to anyone thinking of taking a road trip, you won’t regret it :)

Inigio and his lovely girlfriend looked after Dolly for one week here in the Algarve area. They brought her back clean and in really good shape. Before and during the rental period we had a very good dialogue. I can highly reccomend them to lend your car. :-)
