Hertfordshire is home to the UK's first roundabout, installed in Letchworth Garden City in 1909, and the county continues to surprise visitors with its blend of historic market towns, green countryside, and easy access to London. From the magnificent St Albans Cathedral, built partly with Roman bricks from the nearby ancient city of Verulamium, to the grand estate of Hatfield House where Elizabeth I spent much of her childhood, there is plenty to discover. The Lee Valley Regional Park stretches along the county's eastern edge, offering waterways and nature reserves ideal for a leisurely stop. Heading north, the distance from Watford to Hitchin is roughly 40 miles, taking you through rolling Chiltern hills and quiet lanes well suited to campervans. From St Albans to Hertford, the county town, is about 20 miles — a short drive that passes through classic English countryside dotted with pubs and farm shops. Hertfordshire's compact size makes it perfect for shorter touring holidays, yet there is enough variety to fill a week or more. Whether you fancy exploring the Warner Bros. Studio Tour near Leavesden or walking the trails around Ashridge Estate, a campervan gives you the freedom to set your own pace. Through Yescapa, you can hire a motorhome directly from local owners across Hertfordshire, choosing from a range of vehicles to match your group size and travel style.
May to September is the prime window for touring Hertfordshire by campervan, when longer days let you make the most of outdoor attractions and country walks. The St Albans Beer Festival in late September draws real ale enthusiasts from across the region, while the Hertfordshire County Show each May celebrates rural life with livestock, food stalls, and live entertainment. Campsites across the county are generally open from Easter through October, giving you a wide booking window. Outside peak summer months, you can often find better availability and more competitive pricing through Yescapa's peer-to-peer platform, where owners set their own rates. Booking midweek or in early autumn is a smart way to enjoy Hertfordshire at a relaxed pace.

Hertfordshire offers a good selection of campsites spread across the county, from well-equipped parks near major towns to quieter rural spots surrounded by farmland. Many sites provide electric hook-ups, hardstanding pitches, and modern shower blocks suitable for both campervans and motorhomes. Whether you prefer a base close to St Albans for sightseeing or a peaceful pitch in the north Hertfordshire countryside, you will find options to suit.
Hertfordshire sits at the hub of several major routes, including the M1, M25, and A1(M), making it one of the most accessible counties in England. The M25 skirts the southern edge, connecting you to the wider motorway network without tolls — there are no toll roads within the county. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are 60 mph on motorways and 50 mph on single carriageways, so keep that in mind when planning journey times. Many of Hertfordshire's rural B-roads are narrow and lined with hedgerows, which suits smaller campervans better than large motorhomes. Service stations along the M1 and A1(M) offer good rest facilities, and signage throughout the county is clear and well maintained.
We had an amazing trip! Rafaela and Carina were so kind, and we couldn’t recommend their van enough 🤩🙏🏼 The van had everything we needed for a proper “van life” experience, and you can also stay at campsites whenever you want!
We hired a motorhome from Cemil for a week to travel around Switzerland. We also visited France, Germany and Liechtenstein. Before the trip Cemil was helpful and responded to questions promptly. On the day of pick up he met us at the train station and the handover was smooth and quick. At the end if the trip it was also a very smooth transition and Cemil kindly drove us back to the airport. The van was great - very easy to drive and everything worked perfectly. All tolls and insurance were covered. We were very happy with the motorhome and would highly recommend renting from Cemil.
We had a great experience hiring this motorhome. Everything went smoothly and we had absolutely zero issues throughout our trip. Fernando kept us informed about everything from the beginning and was very friendly and helpful. He was also very flexible with both the pickup and drop-off times, which made everything much easier. The location is perfect, especially if you're arriving via Prague Airport. We travelled all the way to Hungary and back to Poland, staying at several off-grid locations along the way. We had an amazing time at Lake Balaton in Hungary and also loved our stay at the Pod Opaleńcem campsite in Świeradów-Zdrój, Poland. We would definitely recommend this motorhome hire and would happily rent from Fernando again!
Had a great time renting Dario's van. The pick-up was smooth and we were off and driving very quickly. Would highly recommend!
We went for a 7 days trip with 2 of my friends. It was an amazing time. Camper was really great - in a good condition, clean, comfortable. We did 1000km without any problems. I can recommend this car and Alvaro as a very nice owner.
