Why choose Chatteris for your road trip

Chatteris — a city worth exploring

Chatteris holds the distinction of being the geographical centre of England, a claim marked by a plaque on the wall of St Peter and St Paul's Church in the heart of this Fenland market town. Sitting within the flat, open landscapes of Cambridgeshire, Chatteris offers a quieter pace and genuine rural character. The town's Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul dates back to the 13th century, while the Chatteris Museum on Church Lane documents centuries of local Fenland life. A short walk takes you to the Chatteris War Memorial, and the surrounding area includes Langwood Fen, one of the last remaining areas of traditional fen habitat. Ely, with its magnificent cathedral, lies just 16 km to the south-east, and the market town of March is only 13 km to the north. The Fens themselves are ideal for campervan touring — long, straight roads cross wide-open farmland, making driving easy and parking straightforward. Cycling routes along the river banks and drainage channels add another dimension to any visit. With Yescapa, you can hire a motorhome or campervan directly from local owners in the region, giving you the freedom to explore this peaceful corner of Cambridgeshire at your own pace. Peer-to-peer hire means you benefit from local knowledge and competitive pricing, with pick-up points often closer than you might expect.

Best time to visit

Chatteris and the surrounding Fens are especially rewarding between April and October, when the long daylight hours show off the vast skies this area is known for. The Chatteris Midsummer Festival, held each June, fills the town with live music, stalls, and community events — a great reason to time your visit. Autumn brings harvest season and golden light across the flat fields, perfect for a campervan trip along quiet Fenland roads. Through Yescapa, you can find motorhome hire at peer-to-peer prices year-round, with more choice available if you book a few weeks ahead during the warmer months. Chatteris is a calm base whatever the season.

Fantastic rental, they were so helpful and got us all set up for our first ever campervan trip. The van was spotless and practically brand new. Everything was so easy to use and we just sent up the bed each day as we set off for each new place.

We absolutely loved our time with Javier’s Fiat campervan and would happily recommend it. From the outset, Javier was incredibly helpful and accommodating, answering all our questions and requests, arriving exactly when agreed and giving us an excellent, thorough handover. The van itself was brilliantly equipped, stylish, comfortable and surprisingly spacious, with loads of clever storage. It genuinely felt like a little home on wheels rather than simply a rental camper. Another big plus is just how user-friendly everything is. Even if you have little or no previous campervan experience, you could feel completely confident using it. Javier provided clear instructions for all the important systems — water, pumps, lighting, electrics and general operation — and everything was incredibly straightforward and simple to use. Nothing felt complicated or intimidating. We travelled both on-grid and completely off-grid, and it handled both perfectly. The solar and battery system worked brilliantly, the fridge stayed perfectly cold, and the enormous water capacity was a massive bonus — we showered normally throughout our trip and never managed to run out of water! And the shower itself deserves a special mention: such a clever use of space and genuinely one of our favourite features. On the road it was equally impressive. It drove really well, was surprisingly economical on fuel, and its size was absolutely perfect for travelling around Spain. We took it through little roads and villages without any drama and could generally park it in a normal car-sized space — a huge advantage compared with travelling in a large motorhome. The interior design is super chic and homely, the layout has been really well thought through, and there was more than enough space and storage for everything we needed. Overall, fantastic value for money, a great owner and a fabulous little campervan that gave us exactly the adventure we wanted. Whether you’re an experienced campervan traveller or trying one for the first time, it’s an incredibly easy and enjoyable van to travel in. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would absolutely rent it again. Highly recommended — thank you, Javier! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
