Tuscany stretches across 22,987 square kilometres of central Italy, where the Via Francigena pilgrimage route has guided travellers through rolling hills and medieval towns for over a thousand years. From Florence's Duomo to the leaning tower of Pisa, the region packs iconic landmarks into a landscape that shifts from Apuan Alps marble quarries in the north to the sun-soaked Maremma coastline in the south. The drive from Florence to Siena covers roughly 75 km through vineyard-lined roads, while the coastal stretch from Livorno to Grosseto runs about 150 km along the Tyrrhenian Sea — both routes perfectly suited to life on four wheels. Inland, the Val d'Orcia UNESCO World Heritage landscape offers winding roads past cypress-lined ridges and hilltop villages like Pienza and Montalcino, where you can park up and explore on foot. The Chianti wine region, Lucca's Renaissance walls, and the thermal springs at Saturnia add even more variety to any itinerary. Tuscany's mix of well-maintained regional roads and quieter country lanes makes it ideal for both campervans and larger motorhomes. With Yescapa, you hire directly from local owners based across the region — from Florence and Pisa to smaller towns — giving you a wide choice of vehicles and flexible pick-up points to start your Tuscan adventure exactly where it suits you.
Tuscany is wonderful from April through to October. Spring brings wildflower-covered hills and pleasant driving temperatures, ideal for exploring in a campervan before the busier months. Summer is peak season, with festivals like the famous Palio di Siena horse race in July and August drawing visitors from around the world. Autumn is harvest time — grape picking and olive pressing fill the countryside with activity, and the roads are quieter. With Yescapa, you can often find better hire rates outside peak summer by booking directly from local owners, and campsites across Tuscany remain open well into October.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travellers.
This 180 km loop winds through Tuscany's famous wine country between Florence and Siena. Stop in Greve in Chianti and Radda in Chianti for tastings and local markets. Campervan-friendly roads and plenty of agriturismos with parking make this a relaxed 3–6 day trip.
Follow 150 km of Tuscany's Tyrrhenian coastline from Livorno south to Piombino. Sandy beaches, the Bolgheri wine trail, and seaside towns like Castiglioncello await. Ideal for a 3–5 day campervan break with well-equipped coastal campsites along the way.
Covering 350 km over 5–8 days, this route crosses Tuscany's UNESCO-listed Val d'Orcia before descending into the wild Maremma. Visit Pienza, Montalcino, and the hot springs at Saturnia. Suitable for both motorhomes and campervans, with spacious rural stopovers.
Head north for 400 km through Tuscany's mountainous interior over 5–8 days. Explore the walled city of Lucca, the Garfagnana valley, and the medieval villages of Lunigiana near Pontremoli. Mountain roads suit smaller campervans, and wild scenery rewards every turn.
This 550 km circuit over 7–11 days connects Florence, Siena, Arezzo, and Cortona in a sweeping loop through Tuscany's heartland. Mix Renaissance art with countryside drives and lake views at Trasimeno. Motorhomes and campervans both find good facilities along the route.
Spanning 700 km over 10–15 days, this route crosses Tuscany from the marble quarries of Carrara on the west coast to the Casentino forests in the east. Take in Pisa, Volterra, and San Gimignano along the way. A comprehensive trip best enjoyed at a leisurely pace in a campervan or motorhome.

Tuscany offers a great spread of campsites for every style of trip, from beachfront pitches along the Etruscan Coast to hillside spots overlooking olive groves inland. Most sites provide full hook-ups, modern shower blocks, and dedicated pitches for both campervans and motorhomes. Whether you want a family-friendly resort near the sea or a quieter base close to Tuscany's historic towns, you will find well-maintained options right across the region.
Tuscany's main motorway is the A1 Autostrada del Sole, connecting Florence to the rest of Italy, while the A11 and A12 link inland cities to the coast. Tolls apply on most motorways and you pay at booths by cash or card. Motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are classed differently and face higher toll charges, so check your vehicle's weight before setting off. Speed limits for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes are typically 80 km/h on dual carriageways and 100 km/h on motorways. Rest areas with dedicated campervan and motorhome parking are well spaced along major routes.
Thank you, Jesús María, for one of our best travel experiences! Great communication before our arrival and warm welcome in Málaga were the perfect start to the trip. The van was fully equipped, and we had an amazing time exploring beautiful Andalusia. It was hard to say goodbye to our little home on wheels, but hopefully we’ll get the chance to take it on another adventure someday! Highly recommended! 🚐⭐️
Zeben was the most amazing and helpful host, always there if needed. The van has the perfect setup and it’s the best way to spend time on the island. Could not recommend more!
Great host,great camper
We had a great trip and a good overall experience with Marco’s campervan. Communication with the owner was very swiftly, both before and during the rental. Campervan also met our standards and was in line with description. We were on the road for 9 days. It was our first experience driving and being on the road with a campervan and we did not experience any issues at all. The van itself was in good condition, and Marco was very available for any questions. Would definitely recommend!
The hire from Franck was perfect for our holiday in the Alsace. It was modern and spacious and very practical. The hiring experience was very easy and Franck was a great host. He assisted us with all our questions and always responded promptly. We would not hesitate in recommending this motorhome for future trips.
Everything like on description and good communication with the owner. We had a lovely time! Thank you :))
