Campania is home to three UNESCO World Heritage Sites within just 50 kilometres of each other — the archaeological ruins of Pompeii, the Royal Palace of Caserta, and the historic centre of Naples. Stretching along Italy's southwestern coast, this region offers a remarkable mix of volcanic landscapes, island escapes, and ancient history that feels tailor-made for life on the road. From Naples, you can reach the towering temples of Paestum in around 130 kilometres, passing through fertile plains backed by the Lattari Mountains. Head north-west and the volcanic fields of Campi Flegrei open up, while the Amalfi Coast's winding clifftop road connects Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello across roughly 50 kilometres of dramatic scenery. The islands of Capri, Ischia, and Procida sit just a short ferry ride from the mainland, giving you even more reason to base yourself along the coast. Campania's roads range from broad motorways to narrow coastal lanes, so choosing the right vehicle matters. With Yescapa, you can hire directly from local owners across Campania, picking up a compact campervan for the tight Amalfi bends or a spacious motorhome for longer inland routes through the Cilento National Park. That peer-to-peer approach means more choice, more flexibility, and a genuinely local start to your trip.
Late April to mid-June and September are ideal months for a campervan trip through Campania, when coastal roads are quieter and temperatures sit comfortably in the low twenties. The Ravello Festival runs from June through September, filling the hilltop town with open-air concerts above the Amalfi Coast. In May, Naples hosts the Maggio dei Monumenti, opening historic palaces and churches that are normally closed to the public. Summer is peak season, so booking your vehicle early on Yescapa gives you the widest choice from local owners at competitive peer-to-peer prices. Autumn brings grape and olive harvests across the Cilento hills — a wonderful backdrop for a motorhome tour through the countryside.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
This 100 km route loops from Salerno south to the ancient Greek temples at Paestum, then on to Agropoli's clifftop old town. Allow 3–5 days to explore Campania's archaeological heartland, with well-equipped campervan pitches near the coast.
A 200 km circuit through the Cilento National Park, linking Vallo della Lucania, the medieval village of Roscigno Vecchia, and the Pertosa Caves. Over 4–6 days in Campania, you can enjoy mountain scenery and quiet motorhome-friendly stopovers along the way.
Covering 120 km over 3–6 days, this route follows the SS163 from Sorrento through Positano and Amalfi to Vietri sul Mare. A compact campervan is ideal for Campania's narrow coastal bends, with viewpoints and lemon groves at every turn.
This 300 km, 7–11 day journey connects Naples, Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast, and Paestum in one grand loop. Suitable for both campervans and motorhomes, it covers Campania's major highlights with plenty of campsites along the route.
An 80 km route around the Bay of Naples, from the Campi Flegrei volcanic fields to the foot of Mount Vesuvius. Spend 3–5 days in Campania, with ferry options to Procida and Ischia. Compact campervans work best on the local roads.
Stretching 250 km over 5–8 days, this inland route crosses from Benevento through Avellino and into the Irpinia hills. Campania's Apennine roads suit motorhomes well, with stops at the Montevergine Sanctuary and local wine estates.

Campania offers campsites spread from the bustling Bay of Naples to the quieter Cilento coastline, catering to both campervans and motorhomes. Coastal sites typically provide electric hook-ups, modern shower blocks, and direct beach access, while inland options near archaeological sites offer shaded pitches and convenient bases for day trips. Many sites across Campania stay open from March to October, giving you a long season to explore.
Campania's main motorway, the A3 (Autostrada del Sole), runs south from Naples towards Salerno and is a toll road — you collect a ticket on entry and pay at exit, with cash, card, or Telepass accepted. Motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes fall into a higher toll category and must observe a speed limit of 100 km/h on motorways and 80 km/h on dual carriageways. The coastal SS163 along the Amalfi Coast is narrow and has vehicle length restrictions; campervans under 6 metres generally pass without issue, but larger motorhomes may be turned back during peak hours. Rest areas with services are well spaced along the A3, though less common on regional roads.
We had a great time in the motorhome. Jean Pierre was very friendly and professional. We were shown how everything works before setting off. We would definitely recommend hiring this vehicle. Jean Pierre only speaks French but with the aid of a translator app and his son it worked out absolutely fine. Thanks again Jean-Pierre.
Frederic was excellent. Easy to contact and helpful at all times. The whole experience was a joy.
Fantastic, we were welcomed and everything was fantastic.
We hired this camper Asier for our family holiday through Spain and France, what a great van it is with everything you need. Asier is very friendly and helpful even though there was a language barrier. We would definitely use again if we needed to.
Mario was very helpful and supported us with this new experience. The vehicle was basically brand new and while there were some minor problems with cupboard doors, it was a very well equipped and comfortable van for 2 adults and two children of 10 and 13 years old. Highly recommended!
We had a fantastic experience renting Gilbert’s campervan and would highly recommend him to anyone looking to book through Yescapa. Everything was easy and straightforward from the initial booking right through to collecting the campervan. Gilbert was incredibly friendly and welcoming and took plenty of time to show us around the campervan and explain how everything worked before we set off. My spoken French is very limited, but Gilbert was extremely patient and accommodating, and with the help of translation apps we were able to make both the collection and handover really easy and smooth. The campervan was great and had everything we needed for our family adventure around Brittany. This was our first ever campervan holiday, and we absolutely loved the experience. A big thank you to Gilbert and his wife for being so welcoming and helpful. We would definitely recommend renting from Gilbert and would happily book his campervan again in the future!
