Calabria offers campsites spread from its Tyrrhenian and Ionian coasts to the forested highlands of the Sila plateau. Coastal sites typically provide direct beach access, while mountain campsites sit among pine forests with cooler summer temperatures. Most sites welcome both campervans and motorhomes, with electrical hook-ups, fresh water points, waste disposal and modern shower blocks as standard. Calabria's main motorway is the A2 (Autostrada del Mediterraneo), running the length of the region from north to south and connecting Cosenza, Catanzaro and Reggio Calabria. It is toll-free for its entire stretch within Calabria, which is a welcome bonus for motorhome travellers. Speed limits for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes are 100 km/h on motorways and 80 km/h on dual carriageways. Many secondary roads along the coast and through the Sila and Aspromonte massifs are narrow and winding, so allow extra time and check height restrictions before setting off.
