Friuli-Venezia Giulia offers campsites from the Adriatic shoreline right up to the Julian Alps. Motorhomes and campervans over 3.5 tonnes are classed as heavy vehicles, with lower speed limits of 100 km/h on motorways and 80 km/h on dual carriageways. Rest areas with dedicated larger-vehicle parking appear regularly along the A4. Mountain roads towards the Friulian Dolomites and Sauris can be narrow and winding, so a compact campervan is often the more comfortable choice for alpine passes.
