The Yorkshire Dales holds the distinction of being one of only two International Dark Sky Reserves in England, making it a remarkable destination for stargazing from your campervan. This national park spans over 2,000 square kilometres of limestone valleys, waterfalls, and open moorland across North Yorkshire and Cumbria. You can explore Malham Cove, a dramatic 80-metre curved limestone cliff formed during the last Ice Age, or follow the trail to Gordale Scar, a towering ravine just 1 km to the east. The market town of Hawes, home to the Wensleydale Creamery, sits at the head of Wensleydale and offers a perfect base for visiting Hardraw Force, England's highest single-drop waterfall. Bolton Abbey, 10 km east of Skipton, provides riverside walks through ancient woodland and the atmospheric ruins of a 12th-century priory. For those who enjoy a challenge, the Yorkshire Three Peaks route links Pen-y-ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough across 39 km of dramatic terrain. The Ribblehead Viaduct, a 400-metre-long Victorian railway bridge with 24 arches, is one of the most photographed landmarks in the region. Driving through the Dales means winding single-track roads with passing places, so a campervan is often more practical than a larger motorhome. With Yescapa, you can hire directly from local owners who know which routes and pitches suit the terrain best, giving you insider knowledge before you even set off.
The Yorkshire Dales rewards visitors year-round, though late spring through early autumn offers the longest daylight hours for walking and driving. The Swaledale Festival in late May and early June fills the northern dales with music and arts events across village halls and churches. September brings the Wensleydale Show and quieter roads, ideal for a campervan tour at your own pace. With Yescapa, you can often find better hire rates outside the school holiday peak, and local owners may share tips on the best seasonal routes. Book ahead for summer weekends when campsites in popular spots like Malham and Hawes fill up quickly.

The Yorkshire Dales offers a fine selection of campsites set among rolling hills and river valleys, catering to both campervans and motorhomes. Many sites provide electric hook-ups, hardstanding pitches, and modern shower blocks, while smaller farm-based sites give you a more peaceful, rural experience. Whether you prefer a spot near a market town or deep in the countryside, you will find well-maintained facilities across the national park.
Parking a campervan or motorhome in the Yorkshire Dales requires a bit of planning, as many village car parks have height barriers or limited space. Several national park car parks welcome larger vehicles, and overnight stays are generally not permitted unless at a designated campsite or aire. Always check signage for height and length restrictions before pulling in, and arrive early during summer weekends to secure a spot.
Beyond happy with the whole experience. The motorhome was very comfy and had everything we needed for our little girls camping trip. More importantly the owners were extremely friendly and beyond helpful at all times with the vehicle, the routes, the airport pickups and dropp offs and many many more things! All and all very happy with this experience!
The experience was seemles from start to finish. Handover was very straightforward with all the major information required exchanged. Fabian the owner remained available during the trip for any issues that may arise. The vehicle was as advertised and in very good condition. Very nice camping caravan, equipped with everything that you could need. The return process was straightforward when returning vehicle. Also my car was kept securley stored at the location for arrival and drop off. Overall very good experience and i would highly recommend and use again in the future.
We really enjoyed our travels around Brittany in Clarisse's camper van. It was comfortable and easy to drive and had everything we needed for our holiday. Clarisse explained everything clearly to us before we set off.
A really positive experience from start to finish.
