Why choose Rotherham for your road trip

Rotherham — a city worth exploring

Rotherham's Minster of All Saints dates back to the 15th century and stands as one of the finest examples of Perpendicular Gothic architecture in South Yorkshire. Sitting on the banks of the River Don, the town blends industrial heritage with green spaces and cultural attractions worth discovering at your own pace. Clifton Park Museum tells the story of the area's iron and steel legacy through interactive exhibits, while Wentworth Woodhouse — just 8 km to the north — boasts the longest country house façade in Europe at 185 metres. Magna Science Adventure Centre, housed in a former steelworks, brings science to life across four themed pavilions of earth, air, fire and water. For a change of scenery, the Peak District National Park begins roughly 25 km to the west, offering dramatic moorland and quiet lanes ideal for a campervan adventure. Sheffield lies just 10 km to the south-west, making it easy to combine two destinations in a single trip. Rotherham also sits at the junction of the M1 and M18 motorways, so you can head in almost any direction without fuss. With Yescapa, you hire your motorhome directly from local owners across South Yorkshire, which means flexible pick-up points and genuine insider tips on where to park up and explore. Whether you are planning a weekend break or a longer tour through northern England, a campervan gives you the freedom to stop wherever the road takes you.

Best time to visit

Rotherham comes alive in late July and August when the Rotherham Show fills Clifton Park with live music, fairground rides and local food stalls over a packed weekend. September brings Heritage Open Days, offering free access to Wentworth Woodhouse and other historic sites you would not normally see. Summer is the busiest period for campervan travel, so booking your vehicle on Yescapa a few weeks ahead locks in the best choice and competitive peer-to-peer pricing. Spring and autumn are quieter, with mild conditions for exploring the nearby Peak District by motorhome. Rotherham rewards a visit in every season.

Communication was easy, the vehicle is in good condition and looks like the shared photos. Has the amenities needed and comfy bedding. Having the solar charger is a plus given we didn't drive much, so there was no need for recharging with electricity.

We rented Jorge’s lovely caravan for four days as a mother and daughter trip to celebrate a 55th birthday. It was our first caravan experience, and we honestly loved it! Jorge offers several convenient extras for a small fee, including airport transfers, cleaning. Despite our late-night flight from London, he met us on arrival, gave us a thorough tour of the caravan, and even suggested we record it on our phones, which proved very helpful. A bottle of cold water waiting in the fridge was such a thoughtful touch. After arriving at 1 am in 34°C heat with no open shops nearby, it was a huge relief. We had a small issue with the fridge and also opening the water refill cap, but Jorge happily helped us over a video call. We never felt abandoned - he was always kind, responsive, and professional. The caravan is practical, comfortable, and well-equipped with everything we needed. Our deposit was also returned promptly. Thank you, Jorge, for making our first caravan holiday such a great experience and sorry about the hard to reach sauce spillage again!

This was our first experience hiring a van and it was very good. Patrick was super helpful and friendly. We experienced some problems with the battery but Patrick was very responsive and helpful trying to solve this. The van has everything you need, although a cradle for your phone would be useful if using for directions as there is no satnav. The bed was surprisingly spacious and very comfy- we slept very well considering the 40 degree heat wave! We would recommend this van to you. Thank you Patrick!
