The campervan is the ultimate all-rounder. Effortlessly practical and built for freedom, it’s just as at home navigating tight city streets as it is exploring the heart of the countryside.
South Yorkshire's five-mile-long Wentworth Woodhouse boasts the longest country house façade in Europe, stretching 185 metres across parkland that once supplied coal to fuel the Industrial Revolution. This historic county blends post-industrial heritage with sweeping moorland, making it a rewarding destination for a campervan adventure. Sheffield, often called the outdoor city, sits on the doorstep of the Peak District National Park, while Doncaster's racecourse has hosted the St Leger Stakes since 1776. From Barnsley's Cannon Hall Museum to the imposing ruins of Conisbrough Castle — which inspired Sir Walter Scott's novel Ivanhoe — there is plenty to discover at your own pace. The drive from Sheffield to Doncaster covers roughly 30 km through rolling countryside, while Barnsley to Rotherham is about 18 km, keeping daily distances manageable and leaving time to explore. South Yorkshire's landscape ranges from gritstone edges and reservoir-dotted moors in the west to flat agricultural plains in the east, so roads vary from narrow moorland lanes to wide dual carriageways. A motorhome handles the main routes with ease, while a compact campervan is ideal for quieter lanes near Langsett Reservoir or the Upper Don Valley. With Yescapa, you hire directly from local owners across South Yorkshire, choosing from a range of vehicles that suit your group size and travel style — a flexible, community-driven way to hit the road.
South Yorkshire is enjoyable from spring right through to autumn. May and June bring longer days and wildflower displays across the Peak District fringes, ideal for campervan touring. The Tramlines music festival in Sheffield each July fills the city with live acts and street food, while the St Leger Festival at Doncaster Racecourse in September is one of the oldest classic horse races in the calendar. Summer is the busiest period for campsite bookings, so planning ahead is worthwhile. Through Yescapa, you can often find competitive hire prices outside peak weeks, thanks to the peer-to-peer model that lets owners set flexible rates. Autumn rewards you with golden moorland colours and quieter roads across South Yorkshire.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
This 120 km loop from Sheffield winds through the Rivelin Valley and past Ladybower Reservoir before circling back via Hathersage. Allow 3–5 days to enjoy moorland walks and cosy village pubs. A campervan is perfect for the narrower lanes in South Yorkshire's western hills.
Cover 90 km across South Yorkshire in 3–6 days, linking Kelham Island Museum in Sheffield with Elsecar Heritage Centre near Barnsley and Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham. Ideal for families in a motorhome, with easy parking at each attraction.
This 200 km route crosses South Yorkshire from the gritstone edges west of Sheffield to the flat farmland around Doncaster, passing Conisbrough Castle and Cusworth Hall. Plan 5–8 days to explore market towns and country parks. Campervan-friendly campsites are dotted along the way.
Spanning 350 km over 5–8 days, this route begins in Sheffield, heads north through Barnsley and Wakefield, then loops east to Doncaster before returning via Rotherham. You'll pass Wentworth Woodhouse and Cannon Hall, with plenty of South Yorkshire scenery to enjoy from your motorhome.
Follow 150 km of quiet roads through South Yorkshire's western uplands over 4–6 days. Langsett Reservoir, Broomhead Moor and the Upper Don Valley feature on this route. A campervan handles the single-track sections well, and wild moorland views reward every turn.
At 500 km over 7–11 days, this extended trip leaves South Yorkshire via Doncaster, heads to the Lincolnshire Wolds and reaches the coast at Cleethorpes before looping back through the Humber Bridge area. A motorhome gives you comfortable overnight stops along the way.

South Yorkshire offers a good spread of campsites, from woodland retreats near Sheffield to open countryside pitches closer to Doncaster and Barnsley. Many sites provide electric hook-ups, hardstanding pitches, modern toilet and shower blocks, and dedicated space for both campervans and motorhomes. Whether you prefer a quiet rural setting beside a reservoir or a well-connected base for exploring South Yorkshire's towns, you will find a site to suit your trip.
South Yorkshire's road network centres on the M1 motorway, which runs north–south through the county, and the M18, connecting Rotherham to Doncaster and onward to the Humber ports. UK motorways are toll-free here, so you can travel without extra charges. The national speed limit for motorhomes over 3.05 tonnes is 60 mph on motorways and 50 mph on single carriageways — keep an eye on signage as limits change frequently near urban areas. The A628 Woodhead Pass links Sheffield to Manchester but can be narrow in places, so larger vehicles should allow extra time. Service stations with suitable parking for campervans and motorhomes are well spaced along the M1.
The hire experience was excellent throughout. The owners were very friendly, accommodating and easy to deal with. We had such a good trip. The van is really well looked after and a pleasure to drive. The owners helped with anything we were unsure of and even gave us tips on where to eat and park up. We would definitely hire through these owners again.
We hired Trina for 5 nights earlier this July. My girlfriend and I had a fantastic time on the island. Jandro was incredibly helpful, always on hand before and during the trip to answer any questions which really helped us navigate the island and enjoy our trip. The vehicle was fantastic, an incredible experience to drive. All the amenities were brilliant as well. I would highly recommend using Jandro and one of his vans for a fantastic Mallorca experience!
Communication with the owner was great, van was immaculate, heaps of choice, love the peer to peer concept. Easy to add an extra driver and ID checks were very thorough but straightforward. Changing dates wasn't so easy, the owner was great, but the process at the back end took some manual effort. Teething problems, not a big deal. Main area that needs improving (for me anyway) is the deposit. There was a single line in a table stating Deposit: cash or transfer, that I hadn't seen. The owner asked for the cash or a transfer when we were at the car, which he explained was normal process, but Yescapa could have explained beforehand. I transferred €2000 directly to the owner, which didn't feel comfortable. I had expected this would all be done via Yescapa. I ended up losing €45 in exchange rate variations + fees as well, the owner's bank had challenges which meant it to 5 days to get a lot of cash back. It was lucky we had that amount at hand. I would use Yescapa again. I hope they can tidy up and improve the processes though.
Very easy and open person… all went well , on time and with all the agremants.
Incredible time spent across the south of France with an incredible van! From beach, lakes, mountains and fields, it got me places I didn’t even pre conceive. Can’t speak more highly of my over all experience from van collection at train station to drop off. Drives smoother than my Suzuki jimny and can confirm very 6ft 4 friendly.
We had an amazing experience hiring Eli's campervan! It was perfect for our family of four – myself, my partner, and our two young daughters. The van was spotless, comfortable, and had everything we needed for our trip. It was easy to drive, well-equipped, and made exploring the malaga so much more enjoyable. The owners were friendly, helpful, and made the whole rental process smooth from start to finish. We made some unforgettable family memories and wouldn't hesitate to rent this campervan again. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a fun, comfortable, and hassle-free adventure in Spain. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
