Why choose Mansfield for your road trip

Mansfield — a city worth exploring

Mansfield's historic Viaduct, built in 1875, once carried the Midland Railway across the River Maun and still stands as a reminder of the town's industrial past. Sitting on the edge of Sherwood Forest, Mansfield offers a blend of heritage and green space that makes it a rewarding base for exploring Nottinghamshire. You can wander through Sherwood Forest Country Park, where the Major Oak — estimated to be over 800 years old — draws visitors from across the world. The Mansfield Museum on Leeming Street showcases local art and social history, while the Palace Theatre hosts live performances year-round. For a breath of fresh air, Vicar Water Country Park provides lakeside walks and picnic spots just outside the town centre. Nottingham lies roughly 23 km to the south, and the Peak District National Park is about 40 km to the north-west, giving you easy access to both city culture and dramatic upland scenery. The roads heading into the Peak District include some narrow, winding stretches, so a campervan is often more practical than a larger motorhome for those routes. With Yescapa, you can hire directly from local owners in the Mansfield area, which means flexible pick-up points and the kind of insider tips that only residents can share. It is a straightforward way to set off on your next adventure from the heart of the East Midlands.

Best time to visit

Mansfield comes alive in summer, when the Robin Hood Festival takes over Sherwood Forest Country Park each August with medieval jousting, archery, and live entertainment. Spring and early autumn are ideal for exploring the surrounding countryside by campervan, with quieter roads and comfortable driving conditions. If you plan to visit during the summer school holidays, booking your motorhome early through Yescapa is a smart move — peer-to-peer pricing often works out more affordable than traditional hire, especially when you compare options from local owners in the Mansfield area. The Mansfield Christmas market in December adds a festive reason to visit during the cooler months.

An absolute 10/10 experience from start to finish! The owners were exceptionally professional, super friendly, and made everything from initial contact to booking and collection completely seamless. Meeting their beloved camper van, 'Olaf,' was the highlight of our trip. As first-time drivers of anything larger than an SUV, we were initially nervous, but Olaf completely surprised us—being fully automatic and featuring Android Auto infotainment system, he was an absolute breeze to drive and got us to our destinations hassle-free. The camper is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need for a short getaway, and honestly, you could easily stay much longer. If we ever find ourselves back in France, we would love to take Olaf out for another spin!

We absolutely loved our time in the caddy! Everything was great, from the collection, the functionality and the communication. The van is small but mighty, the owners have thought of every little detail (sink, shower, storage, kitchen, and a good sized comfy bed). We highly recommend using Yescapa and hiring this van- perfect for your dolomites adventure!
