Why choose Grimsby for your road trip

Grimsby — a city worth exploring

Grimsby's Dock Tower, modelled on Siena's Torre del Mangia, has stood 94 metres tall over the Royal Dock since 1852 and remains one of the most recognisable landmarks on the Humber Estuary. The town's deep ties to the fishing industry are brought to life at the Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre, where you can step aboard the restored side-winder trawler Ross Tiger and hear first-hand accounts from former crew members. A short walk along the waterfront leads to the National Fishing Heritage Centre and Alexandra Dock, where fresh seafood stalls serve some of the finest fish in the country. For green space, head to People's Park, a beautifully restored Victorian park with ornamental lakes and a café. Cleethorpes, just 5 km to the south-east, offers a sandy beach, a boating lake and the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway. Lincoln, 45 km to the south-west, rewards a day trip with its imposing cathedral and medieval quarter. The flat terrain of North East Lincolnshire makes driving a motorhome straightforward, with wide A-roads connecting the coast to the Lincolnshire Wolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty ideal for quieter touring. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from a local owner, giving you insider tips on the best coastal routes and fresh seafood spots that only residents know about. It is a practical, personal way to explore this proud maritime corner of England in your own campervan.

Best time to visit

Summer is the most popular season for visiting Grimsby, with the Cleethorpes Armed Forces Weekend in late June drawing large crowds to the seafront. The Great Grimsby International Carnival, usually held in July, fills the town centre with parades and live music. Booking your campervan through Yescapa during spring or early autumn can offer better availability and more competitive peer-to-peer pricing, while still giving you pleasant weather for coastal drives. Campsites along the Lincolnshire coast tend to be quieter midweek, so plan accordingly for a more relaxed stay near Grimsby.

We rented the van for almost 3 weeks and we had a lovely time exploring Spain. The van has everything we needed and working properly. It’s spacious and comfortable for two to sleep. We were a bit worried about the heatwave the country was having and Jeremie managed to buy a double fan for us to sleep, which we highly appreciated. He is very friendly and good with communicating. The van runs smoothly, we just had a message on the screen to top up the oil (which was easy enough to stop at the petrol station and buy one - with Jeremie instructions we were able to do it). We really recommend renting his van for your adventure. ☺️

It was a genuine pleasure travelling in Álvaro’s campervan. Not only was it well maintained and fully equipped, but Álvaro also proved to be an exceptional host—friendly, responsive, and always willing to help. His support played a key role in ensuring that the trip went as smoothly as possible. I would recommend him without hesitation and sincerely hope to have the opportunity to repeat the experience. Thank you very much for everything!
