Why hire a campervan or motorhome in Leicestershire

Leicestershire — a region worth exploring

Leicestershire is home to the National Forest, a 200-square-mile landscape project that has seen over nine million trees planted since the 1990s, transforming former coalfields into one of England's most ambitious rewilding efforts. The county sits at the heart of the Midlands, making it a superb base for exploring central England by road. From the medieval streets of Leicester itself — where the remains of King Richard III were famously discovered beneath a car park in 2012 — to the rolling countryside of Charnwood Forest and the ancient granite outcrops of Bradgate Park, there is plenty to discover at your own pace. The distance from Leicester to Melton Mowbray, the pork pie capital of Britain, is just 24 km, while Market Harborough in the south lies roughly 26 km from the city centre, giving you a compact yet varied touring area. Leicestershire's flat to gently undulating terrain is ideal for campervans and motorhomes of all sizes, with wide A-roads connecting market towns and villages without the tight lanes you might encounter further west. The county also borders Rutland, home to Rutland Water, one of the largest artificial lakes in Europe and a haven for birdwatchers and cyclists. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners across Leicestershire, choosing from a range of vehicles to suit your group and your plans — a flexible, community-driven way to hit the road.

Best time to visit

Leicestershire is enjoyable throughout the year, though May to September offers the longest days and warmest weather for touring. The Melton Mowbray Food Festival, usually held each October, is a brilliant excuse to visit in autumn, while the Leicester Caribbean Carnival lights up the city every August. Spring is a lovely time to explore Bradgate Park when the bluebells are in bloom. Campsites across Leicestershire tend to be busiest in July and August, so booking ahead is worthwhile. With Yescapa, you benefit from peer-to-peer pricing, which often means better value outside peak months — ideal for a midweek campervan escape.

Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.05 tonnes are 60 mph on motorways, 50 mph on single carriageways, and 60 mph on dual carriageways. We rented this camper van for a two-week trip through the Alps and southern france, it was fantastic from start to finish. The van was reliable and easy to drive, even on the steep, winding alpine mountain roads. It also performed exceptionally well on the motorways, with cruise control making the longer journeys comfortable and stress-free. The layout was perfect for two people. The rear seating folds out to a bed and pop-top roof bed provided plenty of space and privacy when sleeping. During the day, the seating area and well-equipped kitchen made the van feel comfortable and practical, while the retractable awning was great for relaxing outside on warm evenings. The owners were incredibly friendly and welcoming. On arrival, they took the time to explain all the features of the van and made sure we were comfortable before setting off. The return process was just as easy and straightforward. Overall, this is a fantastic camper van owned by a lovely family. We had an amazing trip and would highly recommend both the van and its owners to anyone looking for a memorable campervan adventure. We would happily rent from them again in the future.

Incredibly easy- Hector was there to talk us through everything. He was happy to answer all of our questions and gave us excellent practical advice. We felt fully supported abd it gave us a real confidence boost when we took control of the camper. We had to contact Hector during out trip sbout the van and he was on hand and easy to engage with. Ditto with our drop off. We loved using the camper: it was confortable and easily accommodated our family of 5 (including two teenagers!). It was a wonderful way to explore the Basque Country and we would definitely be up for doing it again.

Tuvimos una gran semana con la furgo, yo y dos hijos adultos. El dueño Samu fue de mucha ayuda por mensajes de texto para extra preguntas mientras estuvimos fuera, y nos llevó a la estación después de devolver la furgo
