Rhineland-Palatinate is home to the German Wine Route, a celebrated 85-kilometre trail running from Bockenheim to Schweigen-Rechtenbach through some of Europe's most productive vineyards. The region sits at the confluence of four major rivers — the Rhine, Moselle, Nahe and Lahn — creating a landscape of steep valley slopes, terraced hillsides and forested plateaux that reward slow, winding exploration. From Koblenz, where the Moselle meets the Rhine at the famous Deutsches Eck monument, to the Roman ruins of Porta Nigra in Trier roughly 150 km to the south-west, Rhineland-Palatinate packs centuries of history into a compact area. The Upper Middle Rhine Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site stretching 65 km between Koblenz and Bingen, is lined with more than 40 castles and fortresses, including the iconic Marksburg, the only hilltop castle on the Rhine never destroyed. Further west, the volcanic lakes of the Eifel region — such as the Laacher See — offer a completely different character, with quiet forests and geological curiosities. Roads here are well-maintained yet refreshingly uncrowded, making Rhineland-Palatinate ideal for both campervans and larger motorhomes. Through Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from local owners based across the region, giving you the flexibility to collect your vehicle near your starting point and set off at your own pace.
May to October is the prime window for a campervan trip through Rhineland-Palatinate, with warm days and long evenings along the river valleys. The Dürkheimer Wurstmarkt in Bad Dürkheim, held each September, is the world's largest wine festival and a brilliant reason to time your visit for early autumn. June and July bring lush green vineyards and comfortable temperatures for hiking the Eifel trails. Booking through Yescapa during spring or early autumn often means more competitive hire prices from local owners, as demand is lighter than in the peak summer months. Campsites along the Moselle and Rhine stay open well into October, so you can enjoy the grape harvest season without the crowds.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travellers.
This 350 km route follows the Rhine from Koblenz through the UNESCO-listed Upper Middle Rhine Valley to Bingen, then loops back via Bacharach and the Marksburg. Ideal for motorhomes, with well-signed riverside stopovers and dedicated service areas along the way.
A 500 km loop linking Trier, Koblenz and Mainz across Rhineland-Palatinate's three great river valleys. Allow 7–11 days to explore Porta Nigra, Deutsches Eck and the Mainz Cathedral, with plentiful campervan-friendly campsites en route.
Cover 120 km along the German Wine Route from Bockenheim to Schweigen-Rechtenbach in 3–5 days. Stop at Deidesheim and Neustadt an der Weinstraße to sample local Rieslings. Compact campervans suit the narrow village roads perfectly.
At 600 km over 10–15 days, this grand tour weaves through the Pfälzerwald, along the Nahe valley and into the Hunsrück forests. Visit Idar-Oberstein's gemstone mines and the Geierlay suspension bridge — both memorable detours for any motorhome adventure.
Trace 180 km of the Moselle's famous bends between Cochem and Trier over 3–6 days. Steep vineyard terraces line both banks, and small campsites sit right beside the river. A campervan keeps you nimble on the winding valley roads.
This 280 km circuit explores the volcanic Eifel over 5–8 days, passing the Laacher See crater lake and the Nürburgring. Drive through Daun's maar lakes and Manderscheid's twin castles. Roads are smooth and quiet, suiting both campervans and motorhomes.

Rhineland-Palatinate offers a wide spread of campsites along its river valleys, in forested uplands and beside volcanic lakes. Whether you are travelling in a compact campervan or a full-size motorhome, you will find pitches with electrical hook-ups, fresh water, waste disposal and modern shower blocks. Many sites sit directly on the Moselle or Rhine, giving you waterfront views and easy access to cycling paths and ferry crossings.
Germany's motorways are toll-free for campervans and motorhomes under 7.5 tonnes, so you can travel Rhineland-Palatinate's A61, A48 and A1 without extra charges. On autobahns with no posted limit, a recommended speed of 130 km/h applies, but motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are restricted to 100 km/h, and on single-carriageway roads the limit drops to 80 km/h. Many scenic routes in Rhineland-Palatinate follow B-roads along the Rhine and Moselle valleys, which are well-surfaced but include tight bends and occasional height restrictions through historic towns. Rest areas with dedicated motorhome service points appear regularly along major routes.
We had a fantastic experience hiring this campervan! It was very clean, well maintained and exactly as pictured. Alberto, the owner, was incredibly friendly and helpful, and was always happy to answer any questions we had. The campervan was perfect for the three people travelling in our party and had everything we needed for a comfortable trip. The heating, hot water and electricity all worked perfectly, and having a cooker and fridge meant we could easily prepare meals and store food. We would highly recommend this campervan to anyone looking for a trip away, and wouldn’t hesitate to hire it again. Thank you Alberto!
Thank you, Jesús María, for one of our best travel experiences! Great communication before our arrival and warm welcome in Málaga were the perfect start to the trip. The van was fully equipped, and we had an amazing time exploring beautiful Andalusia. It was hard to say goodbye to our little home on wheels, but hopefully we’ll get the chance to take it on another adventure someday! Highly recommended! 🚐⭐️
Zeben was the most amazing and helpful host, always there if needed. The van has the perfect setup and it’s the best way to spend time on the island. Could not recommend more!
Great host,great camper
We had a great trip and a good overall experience with Marco’s campervan. Communication with the owner was very swiftly, both before and during the rental. Campervan also met our standards and was in line with description. We were on the road for 9 days. It was our first experience driving and being on the road with a campervan and we did not experience any issues at all. The van itself was in good condition, and Marco was very available for any questions. Would definitely recommend!
The hire from Franck was perfect for our holiday in the Alsace. It was modern and spacious and very practical. The hiring experience was very easy and Franck was a great host. He assisted us with all our questions and always responded promptly. We would not hesitate in recommending this motorhome for future trips.
